Does anyone know what the tech is being both Zipcar and CitycarClub in terms of the system they use to let members unlock their car with membership cards?

Says that clients hold their cards over a reader in the window and car unlocks, then they enter a unique pin to access keys.

I know of a system that remote starts a car from an app, which is one option, but interested in finding out more on the card system and where its from, just can't seem to find anything similar from searching

Cheers

I'd have thought it's something like NFC using a challenge (give us a pin code) and a response (the code) together with the actual card or chip

You can buy "off the shelf" kit from a number of companies like http://www.c2g-logic.com/#!__product/components . If al depends how custom you need to build your UI

PM for more details; I work for the card supplier for one of the schemes. Always happy to discuss new projects.
