Hi, just had a call from Royal Mail saying that the current OBA system is being replaced with DMO in September this year. It sounds like it's going to be right faff. Does anyone use it? I can't even get my computer to download the 'test' version of it!

There's been some chat about this on the eBay seller forums. Can't say I'm looking forward to it as you have to input the address for each order into it and produce a label from a special printer which you have to buy for the job. Royal Mail do provide the labels apparently.

I was hoping there would be some sort of opt-out as I'm happy enough with OBA. Did they present it as compulsory?

From what I have been told by my business manager dmo is basically for packets. Oba will still be used and is not being decommissioned in the foreseeable future.

They tried to put me on it now. I said I'll leave it till I need to go on to it. Seems lik more bloody work!

Printing one label is bad enough now two?!!

It's definitely happening. Royal Mails' aim is to have every delivery label barcoded. PPI is going. End-September anyone using Royal Mail 24/48 via the OBA system (i currently use code CRL) will have to switch to DMO.

Monday morning i can easily have 200 orders (low value - books), and pick & pack these myself before midday. I predict DMO will add 30seconds to 1 minute to each order. It's not good news for the business customer.

for packets - Large letters and letters will still be used via CRL on OBA.

You're using RM to send books? You'll get much cheaper rates with parcelhub

The old system is being replaced because of the amount of fraudsters out there that are not inputting the post correctly!
I predict you very quickly see alot of online sellers vanishing come sept.

Our account manager told us last summer this was coming.

We send around 2000 small parcels a day so it's near enough impossible to input everything 1 by 1 we take on a back office system very soon.
However we have been told that although they hope to move us over by September they don't force this, we need to move into a system that we can use and there will be a moving over period.

Really if you want my personal opinion I belive that this will make the online market for smaller cheaper items vanish.
Royal Mail was alway an option for bulk post. it seems this will no longer be the case if large letter is stopped. and if everu item is treated as an individual instead of based on avatar weighting systems smile

Guess we'll wait and see
