Does anyone know what proportion of an airports revenue comes from which source? It seems accepted wisdom now that retail is far more lucrative than landing fees, but what about parking charges?

I worked with someone whose husband was quite senior at Bristol Airport - certainly a substantial slug of their income was from parking.

I have a friend who owns a couple of car parks, so I know there can be good money in it but those figures are crazy. I had no idea it was that high. Over a million a week for a service that probably costs less than a million a year to provide. Nice work if you can get it!

All you need to do is to buy the land and build the car park

Heathrow can say goodbye to that £100m from Heathrow express when cross rail arrives

I remember a few years ago reading that the parking at Luton airport paid the running costs of the airport....clearly there are lots of ways to define running costs but it's a huge % of revenues.

When they introduced the fees at Stanstead to drop passengers at the terminal it put £10 to £20 mil on the valuation of the airport.

Sometimes I think the profit motive is a shame.
