Data Protection Act - Moving Data - Access to Excel

Hi

Hoping someone could help.

Client has data relating to people who have had certain types of surgery. Access DB has catered for the data for 15 years plus I think. Its an old DB, not well made but served a purpose. Client wants to isolate recent additions in order to mail merge. For reasons I wont go into we cant link it to the DB, someone is manually going to have to run through the DB and copy and paste the details out into a new DB. The full time member of the admin staff hasn't got time, the plan would be to get a temp in to spend a few days doing this manually.

Any concerns or can they crack on without issue?

I wouldn't have thought so, excepting the general data protection training plus any additional requirement for medical confidentiality.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a way to automate the process of moving the data into an excel format but if not just be sure to check the data integrity if it's lots of copy and pasting being done by a temp.

I was certain there would be a way to automate the process and wanted to take the database off site to my guys in order to to work it out. Im consulting on a related project but have limited Access DB skills and its the oddest system developed years and years ago by a chap who didnt do this for a living lets say,

I managed to export it, that parts easy. It's exporting only the recent clients and defining that by date is very tricky due to the structure of the DB

As you say, the problem is the nature of the data itself.
