Blogging is puerile crap that us seldom read in full unless your interesting and I doubt the towels will do it but the pet stuff should do well with examples of doggy based ecstasy when given a specific chew etc

Thats my thinking. I have two very cute puppys which have been quite usefull on instagram. Im going to get a few toys i sell and maybe invest in a half decent camera and probably use the blog for dog purposes. I struggle to write a desription for a duvet set nevermind a blog!

I've just joined you on twitter.(@mtmallon) I am useless with computers so got help from a friend. He showed me how to use hoot suite which is a program to auto tweet pre written tweets. Use # with words relevant to your business.
I found people respond better to any tweet with a picture in it so take pictures of all your stock and get them out there!
Your market is probably women over 25 ( guess) so join where they will be like a woman's clothes supplier for example and join all of them!
Feel free to give me a call as it's probably easier to explain in conversation.
Good luck
( I'll tag you in later this evening and see if you get any more followers)

Google loves a destination site, your miles away from that but you have to start somewhere.

Also just my opinion but pet and home stuff shouldn't share a site when you grow your business

I understand partly what you mean by that. Im being picky about what dog stuff i put on. Avoiding the flea treatments and pooper scoopers! Focusing on high quality decent toys and coats etc. A quarter of the UK's households have a dog so why not have them on, gives me abit of individuality.

A lot of hits that come to my website via my blog are my book reviews, so I think product reviews are probably your best bet, especially in the case of your pets! You could also include the occasional article about local areas you find are good for walking your dogs, or highlight any news articles about pet ownership that you think are interesting and want to add your own perspective.

You don't need to blog every day (I certainly don't). Once a month or so should be fine, I blog more frequently simply because I enjoy it smile

Website layout is good, sure it needs some polish, but websites constantly evolve. As mentioned, check you are good on distance selling and re-read your website for bits of content still missing.

I have just ordered two dog leads smile

Just so that you are aware, the dog leads I ordered, I was looking for some a little while ago like these.

Look at this https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Lishinu+3m+Retra...
You are not on the list, but whats interesting is there aren't many results at all, so an excellent opportunity for you to tweak your website to land on these searches.

I am guessing you haven't invited Google to your website yet, so sign up to googles webmastertools and follow through adding your site.

Another thing i noticed. Im shopping away on your site, how was i to know you had a shower curtain under a certain towel range? Just seems random to me. Cant you just have them as all seprate products so i can see what im looking for? Im like it in high street shops, i wont look through rails of clothes, i want it infront of me, on display and easy to see.

Bath towels and i find a hidden toilet bath matt thing. Again, why not seprate, and easily seen in your bathrom section?

Catherine Lansfield - hand towel £price (own picture)
Catherine Lansfield - Face towel £price (own picture)

Not hidden in a drop down menu, which imo should only be used for colour choices of that same product.

Blogging, if done right, can be great for getting extra traffic to your site though. 15% of traffic to my site comes via a handful of blog articles.

Yeah the way i have put stuff on does need a little rearranging. I am going to add some drop down menus to the header so its a little clearer. Just had 50,000 things to do. Amazon, ebay and website all done in a month!

Here is my experience from doing my own SEO and getting traffic to my website, all through my own work with no marketing budget aside from adwords.

We launched in December 2013 and now get 300-500 visits daily, with traffic continuing to rise month on month. This is what I did, whether it's the best way to go about this, I don't know but it is working for me.

- Read as much about SEO and online marketing as you can in free time, learning to do this yourself will save you money.
- Get your website linked on good authority directories.
- Blogger outreach - I know people on here have dismissed blogging, but it can provide low cost exposure and good back links. We simply send out PR samples to bloggers who I think will either provide us with a strong back link or traffic from their readers.
- Social Media - don't just hammer out posts selling to people, engage with them.
- Blogging on your own website - I see you said you are struggling with this. Write how to guides, write about the benefits of your products, write a behind the scenes blog to show potential customers that you a person and not a faceless business. Find your competitors websites and see what they are writing about.
- PR - Get in touch with bedding or pet magazine journalists, pick up the phone or fire them an email, a press release. Give them a news story.
- Special offers - I look at a company called Ikrush, they did a loss leading offer over Christmas with an advent calender type deal which got them massive press coverage and ultimately visits and sales.

I see you are using Shopify, have you read their blog posts? They can be really helpful when starting out.

It's certainly a strange mix of products.
Duvet covers and dog leads are not something I'd associate normally.

I know but why not try something new. As i said, 25% of the UK's households have atleast one dog and we are a dog nation. If i am in tesco doing a quick shop i always go down the dog aisle to see what i could bring home.. surely i am not the only one to do that. So if a dog owner is on my site and they see the dog section you never know they might get tempted. I am trying to keep them both relatively separate but oh well you may swell give it a go!

If you are not sure about the blogging, why not write it from your dogs perspective? let your dog "review" the stuff you sell, "comfy bed this new k9 duvet, not scratchy and I only had to circle three times to get it how I like it" etc coupled with photos of your dogs - linking to their instagram account etc..

PPC?

Blogging will help your SEO but it is a long term strategy and you need to think hard about something that people will find at least moderately interesting. Google and other SEO's are looking for websites that are relevant (lots of keywords) and up to date (so adding new products. blogs, content).

Social media is great in theory but it rather depends on what you have of interest to share and in practice getting shares can be quite hard.

EDIT: Just had a quick look at your site. You need wider/full width main images on the HP. Some of the content/items are very nice/interesting. Think about messaging, for example on the HP it could say "For a truly unique and beautiful home there's only one choice', etc. People don't care (on the web) where you are based, they care about finding what they want and feeling reassured that you can give them that.
