Or TODAY even !!!

Having never had a BMW I have been looking at them more and more of late.

I've recently been on a couple of driving tours where fellow drivers had either 1M, 135i or 235is and I have to say all of them have really impressed me.

So today I thought "why not" and went and put down £1k to secure a build slot on a new M2.

I agreed with the dealer (who said I was number two on the list as somebody did exactly the same on Thursday) that I wanted it to be 100% refundable subject to learning more about the car which he agreed to so now it's time to start reading all the rumnour and speculation posts smile

I've also been strongly considering an M5 as on the 0%deal I'd put down the biggest possible deposit and then buy it after 24 months I suspect given that they seem to represent such fantastic (relative) VFM.

Any way plenty of time to think about it as launch isnt going to be until November apparently.

Feel free to tell me which one I should or shouldn't go for !!I

I'm very impressed with my 235i. It's got pretty much everything you could want with the exception of not being quite as exciting to drive as a full on M car. If the M2 adds that (specifically making the engine a bit more exciting) it should be pretty epic.

Very nice, all I suggest is you don't drive an M5/6 before or during your ownership of the 2. How does the saying go, There good but not quite Carling... smile

Fair point

It's going to be replacing a 760 BHP 200 mph CLS63 Shooting Brake so I'm prepared for a more compact and different experience smile

I do worry that I'll miss the grunt hence why the M5 still features in my thinking.

My previous car was an M6. 99% of the time I don't miss the extra performance because 99% of the time you can't use it on UK roads IMO.

Seems about right. This kind of thinking has factored in my decision not to tune my current Mazda 6 MPS to over 500bhp and instead go back to an E39 M5. Enough power for 99% of the time.

It's a totally different driving experience though isn't it? The M2 should feel fairly small, exciting (I hope) and wieldy in comparison to the M5, which is more about going extremely fast, but without really noticing. The smaller, lighter car will always win the day for me.

OP, good luck with the M2. I really do hope that BMW build something that its line-up is missing at the moment.

After such a monster, you will be disappointed IMO.
Test drive the M5 before you commit.

What he said. Unless of course you're wanting to reduce size for other reasons.

I feel the M2 'should' be a cracking car, but it will follow the same protocol as the 1M/M3/M4, whereas they compete at their respective levels. If looking for a rapid luxury saloon car then the M5 it is, if looking for a smaller rapid coupe/saloon/ragtop then the M3/4, if smaller still then the 1M. I'm not sure what the M2 will offer M3/M4/M5/M6 owners as it won't add anything other than improved economy as it's likely to be slower than all of them, but i guess it will still induce a giggle for its own merits, but then again all the others do that for their relative reasons.

If someone's in the market specifically for a 2 Series style/size of car then of course the M2 should be the epitome of that range, i personally just find the 2 Series a little odd as it isn't much bigger than the 1 & not that much smaller than the 3, so unless the M2 is to be the bargain of the year then i'd be heading for an M3.

All of course is only my opinion so really doesn't count for muchsmile

There are lots of good points being raised here.

In truth the Merc is marvellous but excessive. I love it dearly but only use its potential three or four times a year at VMax events and and on the odd track day.

I'm lucky enough to have a Vantage for weekend fun and a big wafty Disco for comfort so my logic was to get something practical, relatively cheap to run and compact as a daily driver andike I say the small 35 cars have really impressed me when I've seen them up close.

I do though very much wonder about the M5 as it just seem a such great value. On the current deals it's cheaper than an M3/4 !

What are the chances of the M2 being in limited supply like the 1M Coupe?

If they are then its likely a shrewd buy going on the 1M prices.

Dealer says not, allegedly going to be a full volume production car like the 3/4/5/6

From what I've read, it's not being proposed as a limited numbers car.

I'm just getting to know my 1M and it's a car that really gets under the skin. It feels zippy and agile, very direct and involving to drive, and a bit antisocial. And it looks the part. It'll be interesting to see how the M2 compares.

If your thinking that way about usability then I think the 2 will be ideal. The Merc sounds a brute and has the same HP as my M6 so I understand the limited use POV.

I'm going to go and see if it's possible to stick a deposit down on a M2 cabrio build slot this afternoon.

Is that 760bhp a typo? 560bhp is about right, isn't it?

No smile

It has indeed been fettled.

It's very very fast and very very loud smile

It's been at a few Sunday Services over the past year and will no doubt be at a couple more before it has to go.

That's some serious fire power. Do you have any vids of it /sound as I'm assuming it sounds lovely.
