I started my facebook page around 3 years ago but the likes were not picking up - I know probably was not adding any good content etc etc but I got greedy and used the services of FIVERR and paid £5 for 10,000 facebook likes just to make my page look more "professional" worked a treat and within 48 hours I had 12k facebook likes.

Now the problem is that a couple of years down the line I have realised that all the likes were from Turkey! And it seems my page is only being promoted in Turkey as anything I upload is not shared on my friends feeds even though they have liked my page!

When I try and pay for targeted advertising that too shows the page being targeted to Turkey! Is there any way round this or will I need to start a new facebook page!?!?

Help appreciated smile

On a serious note I think your just going to have to start afresh really. Maybe go to fiverr and use likes from UK only or something.

I doubt you will be able to swing your page around enough, better to start afresh - less hassle I think

This is not related to your Turkey issue. FB will drop your posts and any others from pages you have liked if you don't show any activity on them (likes/comments). It reasons that you are not interested in seeing posts from them regularly and so it will just allow a post from a page you have liked in the past every so often, as a reminder. Your friends have not commented/liked your posts much and you have not given them much to do so either.

Hi,

You don't have to start again, but you should go through your 12,000 likes and establish which you "paid" for and which you didn't. Starting again will take longer than manually deleting the likes.

In any case, paid for likes from the UK (and in general for that matter) are totally worthless because the reach of your page is governed by the initial reaction from a small percentage of the likers you have every time you post. If they react positively to it, then it will be shown to more of your likers. Obviously, paid for likers are only paid to like the page and not to continue liking your posts and therefore paying for likes actually kills your reach in the short, medium and long term. For this reason, a good way of shafting your competitors Facebook reach is to pay for a bunch of likes from Bangladesh.

I would also recommend limiting the Facebook page visibility to people only in the geographical region that you are operating in. There is NO point in having likes from Turkey if you are a brick layer in Croyden, so go to page settings and click to only allow the UK to see the page. You can also select multiple countries who can see it if you operate in more than one, OR you can choose certain countries which cannot see the page. Either way, limit your Facebook reach to that of the country you are operating in.

Also, ask yourself if you ACTUALLY need a Facebook page. There are so many businesses I see where I think "WTF do they need a FB page for?". Just because your mate down the pub tells you that you need one, don't think it is absolutely the be all and end all.

I have a successful page now which is purely organic likes and organic page reach is in the multiple 10's of thousands each week with a high CTR. Still a work in progress though.

Well social forms a part of SEO these days but if the OP isn't using a website or doesn't have much of a website then I'd tend to agree. That said there are a number of very successful companies which primarily use FB for business.

Which is a bit of a pain as there are plenty of companies that really don't need to be on Facebook and Twitter but almost have to just to make sure they are ticking all possible SEO boxes.

Maybe not allowed but I can recommend Fifty6 http://www.fifty6.co.uk/.

Buying likes isn't really worth while in the long run, as you have found out. Read some of this guy's blog on the website linked above for some helpful hints on things you can do for yourself.

Are you producing any good content on your page? Are you creating conversations? Are you linking with other local pages that are relevant to you?

It's all about being social and creating interest.

Create a (very good) video, and use the advertising process of Facebook to make it go viral in a specified target audience. ie friends of friends, or people interested in specific topic.

This has worked well for me recently, and only costing a few pounds each day.
