Basically I need to find software that solicitors and accountants and other 'fee earners' use to record time they have spent on doing a job for a client.

It should also have the ability to produce basic invoices.

It will be used by a large organisation and they will probably want a realiable well known bit of software with good support.

That said it only needs to be accessed by about 5 people.

Any tips?

I used to work for Eclipse Legal and sold the product (Proclaim) to a number of non-law practice entities. It will fo everything you need and can be purchased outright or on a SaaS basis.

They have a strong consultancy and sales operation that would be capable of understanding your business needs and producing the appropriate solution. The company were recently bought by Capita.

Thanks

As I work for a large firm they will want software that in installed on the network - they wont go for a web based option I imagine.

I was also looking at something called IRIS.

I tried the SAGE version but it looks difficult to work with.

Seneca case management allows you to organise all case files and track billable time: http://www.senecacm.co.uk/

I've seen IRIS Practice Management used by some.

We use Harvest for T&E + invoicing. I've been very happy with it. Our business is consultancy so a similar billing model to legal & consultancy practices.
