Why is setting up Direct Debits for customers so hard?

I reasearched this several years ago and got a similar response to you.
I looked into several alternate suppliers, and found a company called FastPay.
I've been using them since nineteen hundred and frozen to death, cheap as chips, uber professional and reliable (no connection other than they're a supplier).
They will help you set up your own branded direct debit mandate forms, regulatory letters, summit to 'AUDIS' (sp?) and deposit your DD funds to your account.
Their bogo service starts at £49/mth regardless of amount collected IIRC (no ongoing contract).
