Looking to put trackers in 2-3 vans. Mainly so we can keep customers informed if arrival times but also to keep an eye on employees. Can any recommend a company and give me an idea of cost?

Thanks

Best in the industry at the moment is Microlise but this maybe overkill for your needs.

We use Tracktronics, cheap solution at £8.50 per unit per month with a small outlay for setup.

Basic web setup and support but does the job required.

We use C-Track.

Good features and reliable.

You are looking at £90 ish per month for 3 vehicles and after 3 years you are looking at a reduction of around 50%.

My only gripe is they moved from Google to Nokia for maps around 12 months ago.

Fleetmatics.

They also analyse driving techniques, fuel consumption etc. I've never used this data but I'm sure others would.

Thank you everyone for your help. Think I'm going to go with Tracktronics as I'm only really interested in the tracking. The ability to check how people are driving and fuel consumption is less useful.

Good luck Tom.

The fuel consumption info led me to research speed limiters on the vans a few years back and they are now restricted to 80 km/h. Despite our sales increasing quite rapidly our fuel bills are down just shy of £40,000 on 3 vans.

You just never know where these ideas take you.

This, I use the Quartix system to work out who is best driver over the course of a month, and that person gets £50-100 bonus in their wages, needless to say they are now all driving around like Miss Daisy, and I'm making a saving on Fuel, Brakes and general wear and tear.

Is there a way of fitting these systems to cars on a temporary basis?

I buy and sell cars but quite often buy from 200+ miles away. Would be very good if there was a plug and play type solution.

Thanks.

Not sure Jimmy but our three vans on the fleetmatics system also have two pool cars connected so not exclusive to vans.

If you want a quick in out medium I would look at utilising a phone solution tbh.

we use quartix.17 vehicles I think. we buy the unit, then pay minimal monthly fees. I also got them to supply a 'remote' unit. i.e. the standard tracking unit, about the size of a cigarette packet, but instead of hard wiring the unit, just put a cigarette lighter adapter on the end. plug & play, sorted. (n.b. I buy the units as I don't like keep paying for install costs when I change vehicles. easyish to remove and put into new vehicle)

I used to work for one of the companies above, was great tech that powered it, really insightful

Temp solutions are possible, but if its cigarette lighter powered then the user can just pull it out when they don't want to be tracked, this isn't relevant to everyone.

On a similar note, if you start tracking your employees vans, makes sure you HR paperwork such as employees handbooks/contracts/similar are updated to reflect this. Also detail out what the consequences are if the tracking details issues and highlights employee behaviour you weren't aware of! Also look out for employees using GPS blockers you can get for a tenner off the internet that can make their vehicles disappear when in use, good to have a policy in place for if you find then using them to avoid being tracked. Seen and heard issues of similar many a time!
