Hi All

I am a used car dealer and find it difficult to source good stock constantly, i generally sell higher mileage cars and mostly diesels. I was wondering weather any one on here is a trade to trade seller that can help supply me with stock. I have trade outs account and also AT mail but cant source enough and generally prices are more or less retail. Or if any one can recommend good auctions in the UK that have good quality stock at decent prices. I occasionally use BCA but they are very expensive and 60-70% of their cars need quite abit of preo before retailing.

Hope you guys can help,

Thank you

Adam

Mannheim have lots of ex-lease cars that seem pretty decent and they shift a lot every week. At least, the Colchester branch does (probably too far from you though).

TBH this is the biggest challenge of anyone in your sector. There are a lot of people at auctions now and prices are almost always high. Look for small auctions but if I were you I'd talk to main dealers to see if they will sell your their trade ins and keep an eye on eBay etc. Its a constant challenge for all dealers and always will be.

Fleet Auction Group near Leicester seem ok with regards pricing. Most of the cars are ex-lease/motorbility type things though so are quite new.

It's trade only, so you don't seem to have so many issues with private buyers pushing pricing up to near retail levels (which is madness if you ask me anyway).
Obviously you can get in as a retail buyer, but it's not so easy, and, like the guy who bought a trailer there yesterday and got stung for VAT that he wasn't expecting despite it being clearly explained on all the paperwork and at the beginning of the auction, they can get their fingers burned.

I run a small lease brokers and we always have Customers with current cars that I cannot, and don't want/need to get involved with.

I often just advise them to sell private, or to call local Dealers selling similar cars.

I'd be happy to pass their car details your way for your consideration?

I used to love it when it only just started up but now, it just seems like all the dealers want silly money for their cars.

I was the highest bidder on a Focus ST earlier and they wanted £13k for it (Retail is £14k, needed a service and quite a bit of prep)
I just had the highest bid on an Aston and they wanted £75k for it. Retail is about £78k. Who the hell would have £75k in a car to make less than £3k??

Hii ,

If you could that would be great, would really appreciate it, as we are desperate for stock at times. We can pay you some commision on each car we buy through your customers. If you want to give me your contact details so i can keep in contact with you.

Kind regards

Adam

Hi All

I appreciate your help, it is very hard sourcing, majority of places are getting very close to retail on cars, same on AT MAIL most dealers want close to retail for the cars, trade out is mainly auction houses advertising their stock. I have tried dealer auction but will have a look at it, do you have to be vat registered for it??

It is very hard getting in to main dealers as they mostly send stock to auctions or already have a small network off dealers they work with and dont want to take on anyone else. I was just wondering whether there is anyone on here that just trades out to dealers, plus i deal with higher mileage stuff which most dealers dont like to retail.

Thank you for your suggestions guys really appreciate it.

Would something like this liquidator auction site be of any use? I have no feel for the sold prices whatsoever. Might be all junk or need loads of work.

http://www.johnpye.co.uk/vehicles/ As all the auctions seem to be over at the moment you'd need to check back at a later date to see if there's anything you're interested in.

Sytner auction site is worth a look on some cars, be they tend to be expensive and in my experience the descriptions not always as they should be

How many cars do you sell a month?
What sort of price point are you looking to buy in at ?

I'd totally agree with this, most prices seem close to retail frown
