Always lots of business talk in here (what are the chances :hehe). Just wondered if anyone started up this year and if so, how you got on...

I started my own business in July, now I have as much business as I can currently cope with. Looking to see how I can scale it up without upsetting existing customers is the challenge, the other challenge is I am a Brit living in Sweden so things are more complicated!

Not this year but in 2014. Gone from £0 to £300k pa projected this year. Three of us in UK and a handful in SA. Could have done more but time is the hampering factor as I spend quite a bit of time in my other business.

I did.

Seems to be going well, though I have no idea what to measure that against really. Been going full time since March with one employee, currently snowed under with work and have managed to keep both of us fed and warm, keep the business bank account in the black and all suppliers paid on time.

Next year should be good. smile

Started Sept'. Going well but as a one man band I'm very quickly realising you can't do it all.. And time really flies by..

Yes, website and branding is nearly finished, agreements signed with the manufacturer/developers, we're just waiting for the website to be finished then we shall launch it properly in January and hopefully start signing up customers. (fleet trackers and prestige vehicle/supercar tracking based around a monthly rolling contract, no tie ins.)

Looking at starting something (in food) next year with a partner. I get the heave ho in my current employment soon, which will give me the capital I need.

Started a lease broker business a few months back but have only really started to promote it now. Not pushing it on PH due to the number of others already here.

Not at all, mine is an ad agency. But there are rules about what you can post on PH and I don't want to fall foul smile

I've started two as well as incorporating my 5 year old partnership.

Original business has done very well this year

Second business is doing well just looking for some bigger premises

3rd business I'm a silent partner doing a good job of keeping out of the way but very promising start maxed out with work!

2016 will hopefully be the year that sees us loose our child benefit biggrin

Yep, two actually. Started a small supply company that's very easy to run and has been profitable since day one. Not major money but enough to live on and got me out of 9-5 jobs that made me feel like I was wasting my life away. Also started an advertising company that is still in development. Have been busy doing a lot of the design/web dev work myself, however, currently looking at building a small team and perhaps going after a big investment. 2016 should be interesting.

Its perfectly fine on here if someone says 'What do you do?' and you tell them/us. Its just a common sense approach. After all, many of us have links in our profiles.

I left full time employment at the start of December last year to go self employed, so not starting a business per se, i guess.

I'm an IT Contractor now, through my own limited company.

Its been a great first year - probably couldnt have been much better. Got my first contract end of Jan, 3 months. On the bench for three weeks then got another 3 month contract, at a higher rate. That finished in August, was on the bench just one day this time and started with a big organisation on a higher rate again for three months, which was just extended there for another three months at the start of December (and theres scope for a further extension).

Working from home on this one too.

Genuinely well pleased with progress so far

Potential to recruit a.n. other and grow i guess but not bothered at this stage. Happy flying solo for the meantime.

Technically, probably not even strictly IT any more - ITIL Service Management.
