Hi Folks,

I am currently trying to up or social media side.

I got a call from Complete Digital Media (saying they were Facebook) today offering us an advert on facebook pages linking to our website or facebook page (actually any choosen url) for £149+ vat for 30 days.

They claim to get you very good coverage and instead of pay per click etc charges it is to one monthly amount.

Is anyone using or tried this?

Why would you trust a company that misrepresented themselves from the very beginning? Speaks volumes, I wouldn't use them on that basis alone.

Find a reputable company and spend it on something worthwhile and done right.

Facebook targeted advertising is easy enough to do yourself...... wouldn't bother with them. Especially as these guys put up a false front.

It really does depend on the size of your budget and campaign structure on whether to engage an agency or otherwise, but as others have said anyone saying "they are Facebook" should probably be ignored.

IIRC you are in Scotland and they are in Manchester somewhere. They claimed to be someone they weren't and were offering the world on a plate for £150 and all over the phone, I'll just take your card number...

Get someone local you can meet and see the colour of their eyes. Don't expect a lot in the marketing industry for £150. In fact don't expect anything at all. The key in any marketing activity is continuity, little and often is better than big one-offs (and small one-offs!).

Without knowing what your business is or what your aims are I can't give any more worthwhile suggestions but I think I gave you a contact the last time you asked. That's a guy who through web and SEO has helped generate millions in revenue for all sorts of businesses.

My clients get these calls all the time. I tell the clients to tell the callers to call me, as I control their budget. Nobody ever calls. I wonder why...

The clients save a fortune by not just agreeing to £150 here or £350 there because they're harassed, stressed or just quiet that week, and I get the kudos for showing them how these chancers work.

i've just started to play with facebook advertising and am really really impressed with the interface. it is very easy to do exactly what you want, where you want, when you want and at your desired budget. i've had great results already and am only a week or so in.

what i really like is the ability to set geographic locations by a number of different factors. i am a yacht broker (hence the username) so FB advertising will allow me to place focussed advertising on the immediate geographic areas to big events such as boat shows and regattas and for only their duration. the black art (for me anyway) is then working out what are the best interest keywords to go for.

whilst i have seen a big jump in click-throughs to my website, i see this as a bit of a bonus as my main priority was more subliminal... to get my name and company logo out there so it might be recognised further down the line.... £25 of advertising may only score you 100 click-throughs, but the 20,000 impressions is what really makes it worth it as far as i'm concerned.

no need to employ a third party as far as i can see? unless i'm missing something?

Bingo. FB made it intuitive and easy... it's one of their / if not their main revenue stream so they've done it right. They had to. You can budget a few pounds or pump thousands in, and target people down to some quite scary detail.
