Long time lurker, first time poster.

I know what car threads are a ball ache but I have no clue what I'm going to replace my Z3M with.

Some scrote has totally wrecked the beemer while it was parked up overnight, so I just want to move on and get something different.

Harder than I thought though. My tick list is for it to be manual, a petrol, ideally 2/3-door. Reasonably quick. And the main thing, has to take a largish labrador in the back (so wagon or shooting brake type preferred).

The Z was pretty much perfect for all those things, and a little quirky and special ontop. Just can't seem to match it with anything, especially as my budget will probs only stretch to 15k-ish this time around...

any ideas?

Sorry to hear about your Zed, and hopefully the perpetrator will suffer from bad carma (sic) now for all of eternity

What about a B5 RS4? Couple more doors, but hits most of the other criteria and is dog friendly in the back. Just about sneaks into budget at the moment. Debadged, and with an exhaust only on one side, most people these days won't know what it is

A bit older and there's the E34 M5 Touring if you don't mind LHD

Another option (and again apologies for coming from a biased opinion here wink) is a Mini GP1 or 2. FWD, but quick and with an LSD. No rear seats mean a decent enough boot space for Muttley, and I presume it's possible to get a dog-guard for one of these to go in behind the seats. The brace in the back is removable too, as it's only there to stop luggage moving about

If its an insurance claim replace like for like?

or buy back your Z and repair it, I would not be letting a Z3M (breadvan I assume?) get away!

If you really want to cut your losses, what about a C63 Estate?

Too right! going to buy it back off them and fix it myself, but with work and everything I think it will take a jolly long time to be back on the road with it!

Just want something to take its place for the next year or so..

Quite a different beastie but E60 M5? More doors than you need but a 5.0L V10 forgives all manner of sins...

R26.R Megane should be depreciation proof, although you'll need to up the budget a bit...

Some kind of AMG estate? Previous owner of mine had a large husky type dog. Buy mine and you'd also have enough change to buy a Z3MR - nearly
