Options for Tuscan ECU replacement
Discussion
I have a 2000 Tuscan which has been running very rough.
Garage eventually narrowed it to a faulty ECU. The ECU was sent for repair to MBE and they stated dodgy inputs and they couldn't repair due to lack of componants.
Having trouble getting a a refurbished or new ECU (it is the early ecu)
Anyone have ideas on what other options i could explore?
Thanks

'Fraid so - - older MBE units are just not supported by manufacturer anymore.
From time to time they come up on the 'Bay - usually about £400 as 2nd hand.
Alternative is to check out 'Powers Performance' site and they'll do you a modern MBE ECU - knock protection, sequential injection - bell & whistles whilst lightening your wallet by £2750(?) installed.
OR, go to Racing Green and get a similar Syvecs system installed - guess about the same price.
OR, Phone STR8Six and ask if they have any 2nd hand originals available.

Has anyone actually gone down this route who could report back on what you actually get for your considerable buck? My expectations would be pretty high...

I've have on my 4.5SS . Much smoother running because the sampling rate is much higher , but because it was a MK2 didn't have to replace the wiring loom, did include wide band lambda sensors . The MBE ECU was 10 years old when TVR fitted it, so now it is nearly 20 years old processor technology. So the potential for launch control, ABS/traction control is there if you want it .My expectations would be pretty high...

The only problem with this MBE set up is that you are then tied to tvr power as it is locked. Syvecs offers all of that and is based on la life racing ecu, tried and tested at leman, plus any syvecs dealer or syvecs familiar mapper can map it. I've even tweaked mine myself. Nothing wrong with that if it is geographically accessible to you as Dom offers excellent service, but if it's a trek there are other options

The other alternative is the emerald ECU, I have installed one in a cerb and runs lovely.
Again, you can have fully sequential ignition, knock, wide band sensors, traction control, launch control, full throttle gear changes, you name it
Everything is open source and available, the ECU itself is about £700 brand new. Well worth a consideration.

That sounds great... All the things I want but I do think Im going for Powers Knock MBE with my rebuild... I hear Drive by Wire can be factored into that also?Again, you can have fully sequential ignition, knock, wide band sensors, traction control, launch control, full throttle gear changes, you name it

What do these newer generation ECU's bring in % terms to a boggo 4.0 with the minimum of sensor/loom mods in terms of betterment of standard Power, Torque, MPG, Emmissions (talking all-round usable, not balls-out mapping giving it all at the top end) ?
This explains it all quite well and will be largely applicable to the MBE..http://www.syvecs.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&am...
Power went from 349bhp to 376bhp..
