50th birthday ideas
Discussion
Depends on who they are / what they're into I guess.
My mate was 50 a couple of weeks ago, and I asked on the Food / Drink forum for recommendations for a decent wine. Somebody suggested a 50 year old bottle of Port, which seemed like an excellent idea to me - so that's what he got. (And I intend to drink some of it when we can find a suitable evening!).

I don't know what your friend's into, but I wouldn't be mightily pleased if you presented me with two strips of plastic that don't quite say my name.

Like the idea of an experience. I don't know what your friend's into, but I wouldn't be mightily pleased if you presented me with two strips of plastic that don't quite say my name.
It's my dad BTW.
The scuba diving suggestion above is a excellent one.
I am 49 and joined my local diving club last year. I am obviously still learning but the experience of diving in open water for the first time was magical and unforgettable. I am so pleased I took up this hobby.
If you think this is something your dad would enjoy it might be worth sounding him out, then treating him to a BSAC membership or PADI course. (Plus some kit, depending on your budget.)
There is a time and cost commitment but it is worth it.
And if he takes to it you will never be stumped for present ideas ever again - there will always be some kit he will want.

What watches did he buy.? Get him a 1966 Rolex oyster Datejust on jubilee bracelet, box and papers, engraved from you.
I'm 50 next year and would love this.1500 quid should do it.
Mike
He got a Raymond Weil which is a quartz watch and a Balmain watch, which is an automatic watch. I'm not too sure he wants another watch though, I hinted to him maybe a Tag Heuer but he was unsure. I'm 50 next year and would love this.1500 quid should do it.

Really do like the idea of getting a watch for him...
