Thanks for a really informative post, just one thing, washing machine - or dishwasher for the parts cleaning - i would have thought the washer would tumble all the parts and knacker them?

Thanks!

The 'Black Market' bit is one that I try to be careful of (says he, posting about it on an open forum!). It's the reason I always say it's a hobby, and NOT a business, as tax is not paid... I know I don't make alot, it averages out at about £3/400 a month on a good month, and is all cash in hand (the occasional cheque or bank transfer, but they are few and far between).
Just a word of caution to you. With that statement you have just admitted to defrauding HMRC, do you realise this? Any money you earn in this way is 'income' and as such is taxable.

Sounds a great idea.
If I ran the EU I'd pass a law that manufacturers have to produce reasonably priced spares for 10 years after the end of production of a model.
They already have - and more besides. Have a read up on the WEEE Directives.
Tell the manufacturers. Start with dimplex. Trying to source a control panel for a 4 year old heater right now (I'd tell her to bin it but it's part of a multizone pilot wire controlled integrated system), I might have found the part but its very unclear if its correct and it'll cost £80 on a £100ish heater. Same old story.

Cut out the middleman, make 5 year warrentys compulsary, and while you're at it standardise common parts fitment eg elements etc.
