The Skoda dealership I bought my car from and use for servicing etc, has got this rather lovely example of a classic Octavia Combi in amongst their stock of Yetis, Fabias and so forth. You'd never see it unless you went into the dealership, but I quite like it. They had it for sale when I originally went to view, now they just have it on display, though they probably will sell it eventually. I have asked if I can use it as a courtesy car next time I am in for any work being done... I doubt they will allow this.

So what little gems like this have you seen at your local dealership?

Local Citroen dealer had one of these when I was a kid, I was let into it too, a beautiful thing it was.

I once popped into my local Ford dealer and low and behold sitting there in the showroom was a red GT, not exactly a classic, but rare sight even at a ford dealership

It's not unknown to see classics of the right brand in a dealership - quite often, they belong to the DP if it's an indie dealership, or they'll be blagged from a local enthusiast.

There's a Honda dealer near here with a Messerschmitt and a Fiat 500 Jolly, together with a bloody great big Jag leaper, on top of the partitioned-off office bit inside their showroom.

It works out well for both sides. The dealer gets the curiosity in the showroom and the owner gets free clean and secure storage. My local Lamborghini dealer keeps a QV5000 on a podium for an owner.

Must be a pain if the owner just fancies taking it for a spin on a Sunday though, unless they have keys to the dealership.

Well some of those cars only come out for the MOT and one show. Keep the miles down for the "investment". Yawn!

My 205 will be spending the winter in our showroom. It's always a talking point when it's in the car park and I hope it continues inside.

There used to be a Ford dealership in a small village in Suffolk which regularly displayed some of the principal's collection of Fords from the 50s - 80s.

Just a couple of villages away, there was an Austin Rover garage that often had the principal's E type or MK VII kicking about

The Skoda Dealer at Lancaster used to keep a very smart Estelle in amongst their stock of everyday stuff too.

From what i remember the owner is barely in the country. Being up on a podium it would require planning and staff to get it down for use anyway. So i imagine its not going anywhere for a while.

Bowker BMW used to have a classic BMW from the owners collection in the showroom. Haven't seen anything in there recently though.

This at a Vauxhall dealer a couple of years go. I believe same proprietor owner since new, but unused for quite some time.

I really still want one of these but don't have the budget for one!
