For years now I've made a strange noise when sleeping. I've looked up apnoea but I'm sure the symptoms are the same.
I breathe in and hold my breath, slowly losing it out whilst 'humming' (for a better word).
It's not like a flappy throat is obstructing like apnoea but more a unconcious 'choice' my body makes, to breathe in, hold it, then release the air slowly.
I don't snore, I'm 6"1' and around 13st so not overweight, 46 years old but done it for decades. It's affecting the relationship between my partner and me, my ex-wife learnt to live with it years ago.
I have a Dr's appt next tuesday to discuss it. Maybe hypnotherapy might be the way?
Anyone else suffered this or experienced it?

Sleep Apnoea is when you stop breathing in your sleep and is associated with snoring.
"apnoea – where the muscles and soft tissues in the throat relax and collapse sufficiently to cause a total blockage of the airway; it is called an apnoea when the airflow is blocked for 10 seconds or more" - NHS Choices.

Maybe you're asthmatic or have allergies.

I have neither. This is just a PITA thing my body chooses to make. I need to find a way to stop it though.

Your're doing the right thing by going to your GP, they'll be able to put your mind at ease. He/she will be able to confirm whether its just a quirk you have or whether it needs investigation.
