Setting up a German GmbH

Hi all,

Is it OK (possible) to set up a generalised company in Germany, and run it from UK?
Would be buying German made goods, and reselling them in either Germany, Europe, or worldwide.

Do I have to live in Germany?

I would say there would be just me and my wife as "owners" of the company.
Do I have to have a German address, but not live there.

Would also need to set up the equivalent VAT in Germany

Totally out of my depth here, so even basic replies are very much appreciated.

A client of ours did this recently.

You will at the very least need a German address. I believe it wasn't possible to use a virtual office. I'm sure someone else will know a lot more.

First question is though, why base the company in Germany?

Op from your other hosting post I get the impression your starting off very small, if this is the case your massively over thinking your business strategy wanting a German base at stage 1.
Get going and if you want to buy from Germany and sell euro wide use Amazon fulfillment
