I think this was discussed before but I could not find the thread so thought I would ask smile

A chap we have been doing some work for has been supplying his customers a game of thrones style bench which he has been having made by a local joiner who cuts them out by hand which takes ages. After seeing some YT videos I'm sure it must be so much easier to get someone to cut them using a machine to a cad drawing.

Each one is made from 4 8x4 sheets so I guess they would not take to long to cut, my question is what would be the best way to find someone to do this as he only does about 3 - 4 a week so I guess lots of people would see it as short run.

Is it cost effective to outsource this kind of work?

How thick a material are you using?

We have found Laser Cutting very cost effective, 12mm seems to be the maximum quoted thickness when searching around?

A friend of mine has a CNC router. His factory is in Llandow. Is that too far?

Water-cutting doesn't.

Laser Cutting does blacken the edge yes, as others have said Water Jet Cutting would also work.
We have had 30mm thick stainless steel water jet cut, wood shouldn't be a problem

There are several Youtube videos showing wood being water-cut.

That also looks pretty cool, any ideas of how these jobs are priced? Is it per hour on the machine kind of thing?

Waterjet cutting charge would cost about 4 times the cost of Laser

Newer lasers can cut up to 25mm/30mm thk
