Blimey, there must be good money in car washing!
Discussion
I get all sorts of notifications related to business but one just popped up and my eyes nearly popped out. It was a franchise to wash cars at Tesco, the fee? £50k! Wow.
That said, using my fag packet number crunching skills: if there are 5 staff who do 10 cars a day on average at £7 then that's £350 a day, so £2450 a week and £127,400 p.a. Obviously no costs involved and I could work out more if I CBA.
We looked into this seriously a few years ago but managing a business working 7 days a week with a high turnover of foreign staff put us off. That said, as I type this I can't remember the last time I saw the owner of our local one!
What is they say? Where there's muck there's brass!

To run a car valeting business and actually operate even moderately legit is very tough.
I have owned 2 and a combination of high staff turnover and the associated headache that comes with that is hard work.
Used to do very well with one of them but got out at the right time.
Its hard to compete with a foreign place using the nastiest cheapest products, paying staff £20/£30 cash in hand per day and starting washes at £2.50 or £3.00. Its a race to the bottom and something has to give.
You only need one member of staff to have a CBA moment do half a job and the regular customer is quite likely not to return rather than say 'usually spot on job here, last time was a bit poor would you mind fixing such and such'.
Glad to be out of the business.

Each of your 5 staff would cost £15k with living wage, NI etc, so £75K. Plus consumables.
However, I think you low balled on 10 cars a day each, a "cheap wash" or £7 shouldn't take more than 15 mins, so maybe average 20 cars each.
Anyone actually run one, who might know a likely turnover for a good site?

Where does one get these free workers? That's how someone I know of opened his first car wash. Not free work granted but it's as damn near as you'll get.

Washing money I think. I once saw a documentary about a couple that bought a car wash to launder the money they made by manufacturing crystal meth.
Such a nice family too I thought. I think they had a new baby on the way and trying to provide for their son who had a disability. I think there's a fundraiser for the father who was diagnosed with lung cancer.http://www.savewalterwhite.com/
I think that the money laundering / immigrants on cash in hand is probably a bit outdated now. The one I saw was run by a fairly large organisation and, iirc, on another thread on here someone said that hand car washes are often 'belt and braces' financially because of their previous reputation.
