I have incorporated a company and need to register a domain name and get web hosting sorted out. The website will not involve any e-commerce - it will just be for information about the company and business.

Any recommendations for reliable and cost effective web hosting companies? I was thinking about something simple like GoDaddy?

Any pointers would be appreciated

Avoid GoDaddy and 123-Reg if you can.

For domain registration https://www.domainmonster.com/

For hosting, it depends on what and where you are going to be hosting?

Thanks for the replies.

The business is graphic design/art direction - so will be showcasing client work and credentials. May also contain a blog at some point as well.

Hopefully will be a relatively simple website

Recommend an off the shelf responsive wordpress template for this

I'd recommend buying your domain which a separate company like TSOHost if you're planning on using a website builder like Wix/SquareSpace.

JustHost are pretty cheap and I've never had any trouble with them. Only ever had a small static website though.

I've been using 1&1 Internet since 2008 for mine and they've been fine.

I'd use AWS S3. Flexibility to add bellls and whistles later if you want.

Don't listen to this

here is the blurb "You can use the AWS Simple Monthly Calculator to estimate what it would cost to host your static website on AWS "

Note the words "simple" and "static" (no PHP then!)

here is the form:

and if you click Free website it comes up with some bizarre message

Yeah because nobody uses AWS right? It's the only suggestion so far that's enterprise scale and it's simple to set up if you know what you're doing.

S3 is the simplest implementation but you can use compute and database services too. There's also an email service.

Appreciate this maybe a bit complicated for some.

Yes, just a simple website needed but we will want it to look good

Happy to hear about more complex options though - may help others plus you never know what the future will hold

Thanks for the help so far

For me it's SGIS, always been reliable, easy to use and well priced. Between myself and business partner we have 4 business sites running with them as well as a couple of non-business, fun projects.

Hostgator; I have over ten sites hosted with them... not as faceless as Godaddy with genuine support when needed:

I agree with this.

Previously I would have advised TSOHost for hosting, but it seems like GoDaddy are buying their parent company.

If it is for creative/design stuff, can you use Adobe Portfolio? It is includded in their CC plan if you are using that.

Bugger. Their support lines are very good, hopefully that doesn't change!

Although I only used them as a registrar for all my domains and host via SquareSpace.

I hadn't realised TSO had been acquired by Host Europe, let alone the Host Europe/GoDaddy thing! It does seem that many of the smaller hosts are just brands of the big players now.

Nethosted, as mentioned above look like a good bet though.
