Last year I financed a used coach (24 seats / loo / kitchen) for a mates VIP coach company and it was / is highly lucrative he has the posh away footy fans and Asian golf tours as regulars.

Now he needs an S class circa 2012 S320L and we are talking about me buying it, using it till paid for but for the weekly jobs that crop up he uses it all the while paying the car off monthly.

I am aware it needs a license and special insurance but not what "plate" the car needs - any pointers please ?

If it's for paying customers it will need a private hire plate from the local authority and PH insurance. The plate doesn't necessarily have to be displayed, you can get exemption if it is only used for Chauffeur type, longer distance jobs.

Not sure about dual use though, you might both need to be licensed by the council to drive it under a PH insurance policy. Certainly he will need to be, and will need a CRB/DBS check, whatever it is called now.

That's how it was with my local authority about 2 years ago.
