I've worked for vendors most of my life.
If you haven't been influential, fed into the tender or have a prior relationship with an organisation, conventional wisdom says to no bid.

We all know cases where an outsider has won, but they are by far the exception.
I think this has and is changing rapidly. Thinking back over the past year, all but one of our major contracts were won 'blind' with no prior client contact or past relationship.
I think it depends on the sector.

From my experience - IT - I'm with swerni in that yes, we've won a couple of blind bids however the majority we win are those which we've been able to influence in some way, shape, or form.

Conversely, there's also been those that we've influenced in a big way but then still haven't won. Doh! hehe

How do you know there was a brand new motorbike AND it was purchased for him by a corrupt IT contractor?
I'd be genuinely interested in how you knew this.

You could have been arsy and challenged within the 10 days. However this would cost you more in legal fees then any damages you'd receive assuming you won.

When it comes to public procurement only the big boys tend to challenge and those tenders are pretty squeaky clean.

Was it one of the big players who won the tender ?

I noticed an foi recently from a big facilities company having a bit of a snoop around.

They have big contracts with local councils and it looks like they are sniffing out some opportunities in the NHS.

I'm calling bs.

That would have been on the NHS fraud newsletter.

If you can't beat them, etc...?

Slighty O/T but is there any prospect of some kind of partnership between your businesses? Could this lead to a greater geographical reach if future tenders are approved?

Perhaps contracts which would otherwise be lost by this other outfit could be won and fulfilled due to the additional capacity/capability.
