Dormant company still trading

What is the position regarding a dormant company still trading? Basically its a long story but company A is registered with Companies house as being dormant and has been for some time. Yet they are still trading under that name and have been for 2 years. No dormant company returns / accounts have been filed recently.

Illegal - if true.

If it's trading it can't be dormant.

Are you sure the current trading entity is the exact same limited company showing as dormant at companies house? (Check the company numbers).

Has the filing date for submitting accounts to Companies House passed yet where proper "trading" accounts should have been filed?

I had this recently and it turned out that the company who were trading we the holding company of the dormant one, although they were using almost identical names and the email address of the dormant company.
