I'm having a bit of a punch-up with Scottish Widows. If anyone has access to the Companies House database I'd be very grateful if they could PM me the name and address of the Chief Exec and any other bigwigs. Thanks!

Thanks - plenty of names but no addresses. £86K to charity though - they ought to sort out their customers first.

There are 32 Scottish Widow companies, if you tell me which one I can get you the addresses you're after.

Out of interest, why do you need personal addresses? If this is a business matter then why not address to the named individual(s) and post to the head office?

This is an endowment claims matter. I have fallen into a black hole; in 1987 my IFA stated in writing (I have the letter) that the policy would pay off the loan with money left over. It's the clearest case of mis-selling you will ever find. However, it was before the regulations began, and so I'm not covered. The FCSC and FOS don't seem interested, and Scottish Widows instantly distanced themselves by saying essentially 'The adviser was nothing to do with us, so it's not our fault'.

Yesterday I found a booklet from Scottish Widows entitled 'Buying Your Home'. Page 18 states: 'At the end of the loan period the policy will provide the funds necessary to pay off the loan.'

I shall be interested to see how they wriggle out of that.

Back to the question: I am tired of being dealt with my minions whose job it is to reject every claim on principle. The claim seems to have exhausted all normal avenues. I need to get to the top men and appeal to their better nature, if they have one, and I don't want the letter opened by a secretary and passed back to a minion for a copy and paste reply.

Yes, I appreciate that you don't want to deal with minions. However, the problem you've got is a matter you have with the company, not the individual(s) who head the company. If you feel they're not taking the alleged mis-selling seriously, then you have the legal system to pursue your claim.

Justice isn't free smile But it doesn't need to be expensive, and it should certainly be worth your while if you've got an easy case and the endowment shortfall is significant.

On the Which? endowment claim site it does state:

"If you are not satisfied with the results of the complaint dealt with by the firm, you have the right to take your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service. This is a free service and you can find out more about how they can help you by going to the Financial Ombudsman Service website (external site).

If you were sold your endowment in or before 1988 you do not automatically have the right to take your complaint to the Ombudsman."

That is the only mention of a date on the site. If you were sold the policy before that date, you may still have been missold.

I was in a similar position, sold policy in 1987. I followed the Which? guide and got compensation, my evidence was somewhat weaker than yours!

Interesting and encouraging Simon! However the firm that sold me the policy was taken over, and that company deny any liability and referred me to the FSCS.

The FSCS say 'Our rules don't allow us to investgate any potential claims that relate to investment advice or arranging before 28 August 1988.'

I took it to the FOS and they said 'The matter you have raised does not appear to be something we are able to look into' and referred me to the FSCS.

Scottish Widows say (I paraphrase) 'It's nothing to with us, and if you win anything we'll appeal'.

Sooo - ideas for the next step anyone?

We're going round in circles here. I write to Boss. Boss passes it to Minion and says 'Tell him to off'. Minion writes to me and says ' off'.

Perhaps, just perhaps, if he opens my letter at home on a Saturday morning in front of wifey, I might get better treatment. I'm running out of straws to clutch.

As I said before, if you can give me the specific Scottish Widows company you're after I can give you the adresses.
