My daughter has recently taken a job as a receptionist at a hair & Beauty Salon. She is 19 and is struggling with the balance of being liked and delegating work. Coming home in tears due to frustration and a feeling of being bullied.
I feel an Assetriveness course would help with her self confidence and people skills.
What do you think. Do I just go to the local College of Knowledge and pay £200 for a day course, what alternatives are there.
Thanks
Graham

An NLP or EFT therapist may be cheaper and achieve similar, if not better, results. Depends on the course content... if it's just telling you stuff but you don't implement it, then you might as well read a book.

NLP - using techniques to manipulate situations to affect peoples thoughts and behaviours in order to produce the result you want.

NLP is not alone in this technique.

Big advocate of EFT ( I run a practice ). It looks strange, but can (and does) get powerful results when used with NLP.

I recently had some training on assertive behaviour but it was a small % of a course that cost my company a lot of money.

IMO most people get more assertive/confident as they get older.

Ask her to try a few roles plays, possibly with you. For example, say to her that you only want to pay £3 for a £6 bottle of shampoo. She should give you a factual (very important to get you on her side)reason not to but at the same time not belittling you (the potential customer) ie, "We value your custom but unfortunately we already work to tight margins and therefore cannot sell for less that the prices shown"....and maybe a few words to say that her products are better quality than shampoos on sale in shops.....rather than being aggressive ie, "if you don't want to pay our prices then buy them elsewhere"

She will be uncomfortable at first but with practice she should be fine.

Even if she goes on a course there is nothing wrong with having a head start.

Best of luck.

From what I understand, NLP does cover aspects such as getting people on your side but it also deals a lot with re-setting your own head.

Prefer EFT myself, too.

She needs complete backing from the boss, who in turn needs to make it completely clear to the remainder of the staff.

My Mrs owns a salon, the receptionist is in charge when she's not there and she (the receptionist) has total control.

If the hairdressers & therapists don't like it, tough.

I dont know how old she is but its probably something she cant learn on a course ,, its just learning through experience ,, it will take time but its the only way i guess
