I have a mailshot going out very soon.
The letter weighs in at 258g each. To get a cheaper rate it needs to be 250g or under....

Do you think there is much tollerance in the Royal Mail?
As we have a PPI it is all done on averages, we could ADD 'x' amount of empty letters to bring the average down to under 250g, is that really naughty???

What would you do?

If it's for a few hundred, don't worry about it. But if it's for many thousands, print the second page on thin paper. Or find lighter envelopes, etc.

Sam, what postage method are you using and what size is the pack?

There are posabilities that there are large savings to be had on postage depending on what service you want etc etc.

I am IT manager for a mailing house and if you'd like to discuss further please mail me glyn@amethystmailing.co.uk

Zero tolerance in RM - all that will happen is your mailing will be held while they send you a demand for the extra dosh.

Go Downstream Access.

PM me if you are mailing a decent quantity ie >250k and I'll sort you a quote.

I took that risk once ( to save 16p a letter), had shed loads of complaints from people who had the dreaded 'we have a letter for you' and having paid the fine and queued at the sorting office got my crap letter. Very upet. I ended up sending them the fine in stamps to make amends, so an expensive corner to cut. They only caught about 2-3% of the 2000 letters ( so I saved) , but that was more than enough in terms of irate emails and calls.

Hi Sam firstly as mentioned above down stream access is an option it can be a serious pain in the arse as they are so inflexible but there are savings to be had if you can fit in with their demands.

I would serriously suggest for 8k that you at least look into teh mailsort option by having your data sorted and presented correctly you can obtain approximately 5-10% discount upon standard 2nd class tarriff depending on the service you actually require.

As mentioned above if you want more information please email me.
