I need to write a new CV. I have tried doing it myself but quite frankly I am a bit rubbish at it. Selling, especially me and my abilities on paper, is not one of my strong points.

My background is in motor trade (service)& business management in my own companies and as a Operations Manager/Director advising start up businesses.

What should I do?

I have submitted it to a CV review/writing company who have pulled it to pieces which is what I expected as they want me to pay them to re-do it. Is it worth paying out a few hundred pounds for them to compile a new one? The figures they quote about interviews and job offers after thier clients have had CV's done sound promising and I know once I get to the interview stage I can do myself justice.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I have not had to use a CV for many years.

I would advise that if you can easily afford the few hundred pounds, and think they will do a good job,, then yes, why not. On the other hand, if the money is a bit of an issue, then do it yourself, aided by a book from the library (most libraries have CV writing books in the business section)

Personally I would choose the latter option

Phoenix - littlegreenfairy (I think) had a thread recently in P+P which got a lot of responses on this.

Feel free to mail a CV to me (and I'll have a read / comment). Equally, there were a lot of other people who have looked over many CV's previously in that thread.

ok, so I put my request in the correct place and get a few responses and the other request is put in the wrong place and gets a few pages of responses.
I try and do things properly and it doesn't work out, others do things incorrectly and get what they want. Kind of sums my life up at the moment.frown
