I'm in desperate need of websites, I have no problem with employing someone to do it but it is something that I'd love to learn properly for myself. Can anyone suggest any courses or tutorials to get back to basics? I need to learn how to create the initial layout then the rest is quite simple.

This will teach you how to write them and is a good foundation.
From there its layout, compliance and usability. Thats where it gets a bit more tricky but its good to understand the underlying technology first.
