I understand that so long as there are no foundations, nor 'plumbed in' features that you can place a shed or shipping container down on your land with out planning permission. I also know of people who use these for offices without a problem.

Is this the case of the officials turning a blind eye? And if I was to do the same but have a shop there would it be legal and if only for a week or two would there be many ramifications?

I presume there must be something to stop me doing this and of course I'd consult a solicitor for advice before actually doing anything.

Whilst the erection of a shed like structure might not require planning permission, running a shop from that building would almost definitely be a breach of local planning regulations regarding operating a business from a domestic premises.
