don't cold call - your ROI will be tiny if you see any at all.

this is what to do -

source email data that fits your target profile - FD's, SME, <£2m turnover, <50 employees etc then send them an email marketing campaign which tracks their behaviour.

the tracking will 'survey' their behaviour, more often than not changing the way you pitch your product/service and gives you a list of individuals that have shown interest, even if they haven't contacted you.

then YOU call them as no one can sell/explain your proposition better than you.

10,000 records is usually a good test, you should see around 200 indivduals that show interest (from clicking on links) apply your conversion rate to them.

in short, rather than pay a telemarketing firm to call 10,000 to get 200 leads, do it digitally and get the leads down to a level you can manage.

call centre costs - £0.30 to £2 per call based on info required
email - £0.035 per tracked email - £0.12 per recipient data rental (if you have your own data even better)

as with any marketing activity make sure your audience is profiled to fit and the content of your communication is targeted to the audience correctly.

if you're looking for an email marketing supplier which can track in this manner visit www.wizemail.co.uk

It's got market leading analytics - I know this as its my system.

if you want further info on this approach, get in touch.

best,
Donny

Various outsourcers/call centres will offer you a cold calling service. You buy the list, run it through TPS, then supply to the call centre.

Depending on volume they may

a) upload to a predictive dialler, high volume, defined call-back logicetc etc (used by the big gas/electricity suppliers etc)
b) Use other off the shelf/bespoke software for agents to use (used for mid sized lists)
c) If low volume may even manage by hand/spreadsheets/access etc etc - not the most intelligent, but can be cheapest option. (Used for smaller list, pilot schemes etc)

Spent a reasonable amount of time in outsourcing, so let me know if you need any pointers or recommended companies

Donny,

Definately something that I'm going to look into. Gut feeling is that if spam filter doesn't get rid of it I probably would. What is your experience in that respect?

Now that's more likely, what I'm trying to figure out is it better to employ someone full/part time or just get the call centre to do it for us. I'll send you a PM if that is ok. Thanks.

Any advice / experiences with people actually employing telemarketers / telesales staff?

Hi Chap,

www.wizemail.co.uk has an in-built spam testing tool, so if it scores high you know why and can make the necessary changes - we also build spam tested multi isp tested templates for clients.

Over and above this, we have excellent relationships with ESPs and ISPs, lead the way on SPF and Domain keys and have failsafe unsubscribe functions ensuring ISPs put our emails where we want them - in the inbox.

This is not bulk email spam, it's highly targeted digital communication - you can't just pay and send with us, we have to be happy that our clients communication is professional.

Always happy to discuss requirements and strategy especially with a fellow petrol head.

take care,
D.

Would probably depend on the size of the list. Gut instinct if the job could be done by one person (part or full time) it's likely to work out cheaper than using a call centre (due to their overheads - office costs, account management, implementation etc).

Why not hire a temp, friend or family member to do it on a short term basis to see if its proving worthwhile. Easter hols coming up, nice little job for a student to earn some beer money.
