PRS/PPL – love them.

Tell you what, you guys play with a straight bat and I’ll support you. Keep on going the way you are and you will remain on the same step as the pub drunkard – tolerated until such time as they chose to try to piss on my little bonfire but in receipt of as much respect and help from me as a turd on the carpet.

If you are saying what I think you are saying I totally agree.

Having dealt with the PRS/MCPS over an issue before I found the running of it a bit of an issue. One particular type of licence which we actively promoted to clients had the price changed with no warning to a 40% increase and also the method of application from posting faxing to only online. No consultation at all. As a result a number of clients committed to a project where the price dramatically changed.

I put forward a very constructive letter outlining the issues which was not even acknowledged. Nice, considering our support of them.

Also, I am a stickler for the law, and for contracts. While I know there is a huge amount of misconception around the subject of copyright and public performance as this thread highlights, the PRS do themselves no favours in their collection tactics in terms of support or public opinion, which clearly and again which this thread demonstrates tarnishes what should be something totally equitable for all concerned.

Hi Guys,
As a "newbie" here, I have a question which is based on my experiences where I work.
A new showroom opened last year and in November the main showroom renewed their licence and paid for a new licence for the new showroom (from PRS) - at no point had it ever been mentioned that a licence was also needed from PPL (I appreciate that ignorance is no excuse) so when PPL contacted the owner of the company to get payment he said right we'll stop playing music until we have this sorted out. He asked me to look into royalty free music or cheaper options as it was going to cost £1000's to just cover the 2 showrooms.

I found a website for a company called Moodmixes who state that they have all the rights to the music on their site and for a very reasonable fee (based on the size of the showrooms) the company owner signed up with them.

However we are still getting hassled from both PPL and PRS who state that "it depends how we are playing the music" - does it matter that one showroom streams the music from the website and the other downloads and plays them on MP3 because the computer isn't close enough to the audio system?

They also said they wanted a FULL list of tracks being played and the artists as they still think we should be paying them!

This is getting silly......any advice?

You won't be the first poster to join this site just to resurrect this thread to get their royalty free music company free advertising in a high ranking Google spot, and you won't be last...!
