RE: PistonFest is back!

Looking at the ticket booking site it says the following:-
"Like any PH event, its success is dependent on the PHers that support it. Bringing back PistonFest is no different and we need at least close to 300 PHers to make the event viable. The venue have given us a date to confirm our booking of 31st May, 2014. By this date we need to be well on our way to reaching our target figure."
I suspect we are a very long way off the 300 figure, and well into July now too.
Does this still have a bearing on the event going ahead?
No, as I posted on Monday (I think) the ticket site will be updated shortly (hopefully today) with reference to the calendar, it's not an event you sign up for as such that's why it isn't listed there. The event will be going ahead be it with 50 people or 500, either way, it will be happening."Like any PH event, its success is dependent on the PHers that support it. Just one more thing i have noticed, its seems there is a problem when going to add your name to the list too.
When trying this link:

I get this error:

There isn't one AFAIK
Why would a Magazine Company have an events co-ordinator? They have an Exhibitions department, but they are not employed to organise a piss up in a field to shut a few forum people up
I can see your point, to a degree but what with SS, LM, PF etc., it may well be that there is cause/need for one?Why would a Magazine Company have an events co-ordinator? They have an Exhibitions department, but they are not employed to organise a piss up in a field to shut a few forum people up
Also, I just looked at the Haymarket website and I hope the irony of the big splash banner won't be lost on you

No idea of why Haymarket own PH (and it's not for the forums!)
So enlighten me.ali_kat said:
No idea what sycophant means (FYI I posted the meaning yesterday, it's right up at the top of this page)
"A servile self-seeker who attempts to win favour by flattering influential people."Or specifically, you. Hence why people tag you as wanting to be "part of the in-crowd" etc.
I genuinely hope that the event goes ahead and that it's a success. But this is a commercial enterprise - people are paying money for it - so when viewed as such, the organisation thus far has been pretty poor. Perhaps PH should have an Events Co-ordinator if they want to put on events. After all, I assume the cleaner doesn't get asked to do CMS updates...

Does it refer to Event Magazine per chance?
Does that mean that they run Events? If it does, I'm mistaken & take it all back , but I don't think that their staff would be involved in organising something for a Forum for a car sales website?

Haymarket have an events division that, amongst others, run the Autosport Show (incorporating the Performance Car Show linked with PH). Whether they would want to get involved in something as small as PistonFest is doubtful, but there is the skill set in house to draw on.Haymarket website said:
Launched in 1990, Haymarket Exhibitions has grown from a small subsidiary of the company to become the market leader in UK consumer exhibitions.
In total, we stage more than a dozen events every year, attracting over half a million visitors in total. We're proud to say that many of our shows draw a steady flow of industry awards.
Many of our exhibitions are linked to, and supported by, magazines from the Haymarket stable. However, we have also forged winning partnerships with several other organisations, including The British Fashion Council, Cosmetic Executive Woman, The Motorsport Industry Association, The Motorsport Association, British Racing & Sport Car Club and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).

Really? Go on then, what am I trying to obtain? What personal advantage am I getting from this?Or specifically, you. Hence why people tag you as wanting to be "part of the in-crowd" etc.
In crowd - What "in crowd"? Or do you mean my friends? Because you DO realise that I know a lot of the Posters in real life, not just have met them, but actually know them? As in meet up with them regularly, have been on holiday with them, been to their houses & parties with them, been to their weddings, they have been to my house, my parties and are attending my Wedding?
If that makes it an "In crowd" so be it - I'm very happy
Although surely an "in crowd" is a group of people perceived by others to be particularly fashionable or popular that allow only very few people to join them? That's definately not us

I think calling it a commercial enterprise is a bit extreme - that implies it is being done for profit, howrever, on these last points I do agree with you! Sadly, I think simply being decent, polite or enthusiastic is enough to get one labelled as a sycophant on PH these days.
Threads on a Chris Harris vid is a perfect example. If I had to reply as follows -
"Chris, great video, really enjoyed it, thanks!"
I'd be accused of being a sycophant and licking the bum of "Sir Chris of Harris"

Got enough room for a 'blind driving' course? And maybe some insurance?
I've done it a couple of times at car club days. One blindfold driver, one co driver and a course with bay parking, figure 8 etc etc. You mark it on how close people get without going over the line, rather than time so it isn't a race. It's pretty good fun (although automatics need their own class... it's a lot easier without clutch control).
Bonnet pulls are pretty amusing as well.
Might be a bit 'fun day' - I don't know what you're aiming for. But going by the fact there's a wheel change contest (not half as amusing as the 'how fast can you fit HT leads to a V6 dizzy') it might fit? I like that kind of stuff, but then I'm happier with a socket set and some duct tape than a polishing mop and matching luggage.

We should appoint ali_kat to be in charge of PistonFest - seems to have the most enthusiasm, and that what is needed.
Thank you for the vote of confidence, but having tried to organise an alternative with RandleMarcus a few year ago - no thank you very much! That is exactly why I have so much empathy for Eybic!!Gassing Station | Events & Meetings | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
