Mine varies a lot too. I've just volunteered to have my internet connection monitored independently by 'Sam Knows' and they will perform random data tests on my broad band for a couple of months. Then I can find out how consistent it it smile

Whats the deal with Virgin Media guys? My internet connection is incredibly inconsistent. I'm using a wired connection currently as the wireless set up we have been provided with is crap, but my speeds vary a hell of a lot. I can run the test one minute and get a 1mb download speed, and run again shortly after and get 50mb. There is no predicting what internet connection I will be blessed with. One day its great the next I can't even load the PH homepage frown

I've spoken to them a few times and their reply is always the standard 'Ah yes we are doing routine maintenance in your area at the moment' or something along those lines.
Try posting on their forum - some of their tech people read it and there are some quite knowledgeable members there who will be able to tell you if your modem is getting a good enough signal. It might take a day or two, but generally you will get someone who knows what they are talking about give you an answer rather than someone reading from a script.

I used to get some speed fluctuation and they decided it was due to poor cabling from the cabinet to the house. They arranged an appointment for it to be replaced and put a conditioning filter in line with the modem, and since then it has been completely solid at the speed it should be.

It appears I just got upgraded to 100Mb.

A bit more upload would be nice, it can handle 20Mb per upload channel and there are 4 possible channels.

It seems to fluctuate a bit more than 50Mb did, sometimes dips down into the 70s.

Got upgraded to infinity today. Engineer did a speedtest at lunchtime when he installed, came back as 40 down, 10 up, speed test tonight showed 26, which is a damn sight better than the 2.6mb I had yesterday with Talk Talk

Oh the horror. hehe

Seriously tho, to those with 20meg+ connections, what are you using those kind of speeds for? Even with my 6meg I can stream 1080p video (just)...

TBH 100 is overkill for most stuff but it's nice being able to download a new 15GB game on Steam in under an hour. The low ping is good for gaming too.

Im seriously jealous of you lot!!

This is my usual speed. It does speed up to about 5 between 3-7AM, but stays around 1 the rest of the time.

I think people should state if the result is wired or wireless. This is my wireless connection and the router is 2 floors below me.

Pretty low speeds compared to some here, but pretty good for rural Isle of Wight with a good ping for gaming and it's free with my mobile phone contract and has been since 2006 so I won't complain.
