Quick question...
My ping is, say, 0.85ms. Now, I understand that to be 0.00085 seconds? Taking the speed of light as 3x10^8m/s that means the distance to exchange is 300,000,000 x 0.00085 = 255km.
My exchange is 5km away. What am I doing wrong?
It's the distance to the server in question. and back again. My ping is, say, 0.85ms. Now, I understand that to be 0.00085 seconds? Taking the speed of light as 3x10^8m/s that means the distance to exchange is 300,000,000 x 0.00085 = 255km.

And then there's the fact that your telephone cable covers a few miles extra than the straight line route...
And then...
I can confidently say that I have the slowest internet connection of anybody using PH. Average is probably 3 or 4 KB/sec. At the moment I am trying to download Flash Player, 733KB @ 3 KB/sec.
I'm on a ship, using a shared satellite internet connection, and slow does not even begin to describe it.

Those speed tests cry when I go close!
Go on, post it. Give us a focus for our hatred! ChiChoAndy said:

As expected, nowhere has the spare capacity to cope, as demonstrated by the hugely backward results.
That's ok I suppose.JamieBeeston said:
Heh, its only limited by the other end, they dont have enough capacity for me to download faster, hence the upload speed being so much higher (as its alot less likely people will be uploading to webservers so they will have lots more capacity free)
Tis a sweet connection. Bet you don't have issues with buffeting Internet video then? Smut for the win!Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
