On my MacBook Pro sometimes when I want to switch off/log off it refuses to log off unless I force quit Mail.

Any ideas why that may be or how I fix it? I'm currently using a Gmail and Ntlworld account plus an iCloud account.

Thanks

Pete

Mine did that once. Unfortunately I can't help but I do know how frustrating it is.

Try repairing permissions in Disk Utility. Also open the Activity window in Mail to see if it is having problems with one of your mail accounts in particular.

Mine did this twice, the next time I shut mail down on its own first and then shutdown. I then went back to just shutting down and it hasn't done it since.

Of course this might be completely unrelated and it was just that it got stuck.

Spotlight has stopped working and i can get it to reindex. I have tried the drag to the private side and back again and i have tried the command prompts but both say either it can't be completed or no index. HELP!!

Found this - try it:

In terminal:

sudo mdutil -E /

sudo mdutil -i

Tried that too and it didn't work. In the end I gave up and shut the computer down. Went back to it half hour later and restarted and it rebuilt the index!!!

Still have loads of broken links in iTunes though

Guys, can someone help me out/give me advice. Quite urgent.

My iPhone 5S doesn't want to charge anymore. When I put in the cable nothing happens, and now it won't turn back on due to low battery. My phone is vital towards my work and I really can't afford to not have it working.

Any advice will be great, cheers.

ETA - I think I found the problem. I went onto the Apple Store to see how much a new charger was and there's hundreds upon hundreds of bad ratings about the cable from people that have the same problem as me. I hope that it's a simple cable problem and not a problem with my phone.

Definitely a legit Apple cable?

If so, plug it in (using the proper plug, not to a PC) and leave it for an hour or so.

If still no luck, book in a genius appointment at an Apple store.

I had similar symptoms with my iPhone 5 a few weeks back. Turned out to be as simple as fluff in the charger socket. A quick blow with a compressed air and a poke with a cocktail stick and normal charging was restored.

It was definitely the cable. Bought a new one yesterday and now charges fine. Obviously the guy at Apple said it was my fault and not the naff component.

Well that lasted long. I'm back to the same problem after buying a new cable. Are they really that unreliable or is there an issue with my phone causing this?!

Have you checked for fluff inside the hole that the cable goes into... I had the exact same problem, just used a pin to force out all the fluff and it started working

Have you tried using the Amazon (black) iPhone cables? They're cheap and reliable.... Also try putting your vacuum cleaner over the charging port just to clear any debris that might be in there.

If this all fails then you might have an issue with the socket in some way.

Items on the desktop with long filenames... In Windows you just click once and it expands the text box so you can read the filename.

Is this possible on OSX? I'm having to click, wait then click again to 'rename' the file to expose the full amount of text.

Also is there a better file manager than finder? Finder is pretty bobbins IMO.
