I had a work macbook pro which I had to hand back. I've got all the media from it - pix, music, etc stored on an external drive. Is there an easy way to make this drive readable by a Windows 8 machine or am i buggered?

I use a program called XBMC, I'd love to be able to connect my macbook air to the Tv to watch it. I have a thunderbolt to HDMI cable but It doesn't play sound.
Anyone know how I can get video and sound onto my TV from it?

Items on the desktop with long filenames... In Windows you just click once and it expands the text box so you can read the filename.
Is this possible on OSX? I'm having to click, wait then click again to 'rename' the file to expose the full amount of text.
Also is there a better file manager than finder? Finder is pretty bobbins IMO.
I found Finder a little limiting when I first moved from Windows to OSX, however once I was familiar with the controls the limitations disappeared. Is this possible on OSX? I'm having to click, wait then click again to 'rename' the file to expose the full amount of text.

If I have a file with a really long name then I'd just view it in a new finder window (Cmd + n) and view as list.
Or you can increase the grid spacing so it'll show longer names without abbreviating them - http://osxdaily.com/2011/11/09/show-full-file-name...
Finally it's worth learning the keys, they're a godsend and great time saver - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1343

Another problem with my iPhone 5S - the only way I can charge it is to really push the charger in hard. Can anyone shed some light into if it would be an issue with the phone charging port or the charger itself?
Possibly dust/crap wedged in the hole. I got a paper clip and pulled out a massive clump of crud that has build up over the last year.Petrolhead95 said:

I ran a vacuum cleaner over it, but it may not of got the crap out. I'll try the paper clip method. I used an LED head-torch so I could see right in and it was a plastic coated paper clip.
Can you install OSX to a blank drive from a USB Drive?
Got an old Macbook pro (2007) (which currently just has Windows no OSX) with a broken DVD drive that I want to use to deploy some Unity 3D stuff to the app store and not really wanting to go down the virtualisation or Hackintosh route I thought I'd salvage my Macbook i havent touched for about 4 years. Installing a new SSD should give it a bit of a boost.

Not sure what just happened but just started my 2011 MBA and for some reason it took ages to start up staying on the apple screen for a couple of minutes and then when it started it thought it was midnight on 1 jan 2018 and was continuing to load up very slowly. When I could get control of it everything worked fine but I did a restart and now it's back to normal with right date and time and loading like it should. Any ideas?
Anyone swapped the HDD out in a 2011 imac 27"? Just about to replace a dying drove and wondering how best to get around the temp sensor / fan speed issue they have.
Best to replace the cable or just use fan speed controller software? Don't care about warranty etc as it's comfortably out of AppleCare coverage.

Hehe. I didn't know there is an issue. I switched the HDD for an SSD years ago - no problems since.
On mid-2011 models they dicked around with the sata pin out configuration, upgrade the drive and apparently it'll sense an error as it's not getting a signal for temp and throw the fans to full chat. So I've read anyway. Last one I did was a 2010 and all was fine. I'm not SSDing this one as it's mainly used by a 12 year old for minecraft and the missus for ancestry. They can suffer a cheapy WD caviar I've got going spare craigjm said:

Standard first few things to do with macs is to reset PRAM & NVRAM, then repair disk permissions, then go from there.Edited by Tonsko on Monday 28th July 13:06
