No real idea. But have you tried all the basic stuff - delete Adobe Reader, hard reboot, reinstall adobe reader?
Yep, tried that. I assume others can read large PDF docs OK? They read OK on the iMac. Just the iPad is iffy. Might try the mrs iPad see what happens.

All Macbooks are Intel, btw.

(although with a pre-Snow Leopard install, establishing it's not a Powerbook or iBook probably a good idea).

Something like this:

Cool, if you click the apple symbol on the top left of the screen there will be the 'About this Mac' option, click that and post a pic of the output.

Looks like a core 2 white machine

Should be able to determine which version of OSX and iTunes it can run then.

Thanks for all the help so far guys. Here is the info requested

My iTunes is 10.6.3, and when I plug in the iPad it says it says 'not charging' in the top corner. If I click update iTunes it says it is up to date.

If I use a 3rd party program to get music from computer to iPad will it ruin my warranty?

The minimum OS requirements for the latest iTunes is 10.7, your computer will support that happily.

It's a free upgrade so worth doing (10.5 is long out of support now so any security issues it'll have won't be fixed by Apple).

However given that you've only 1GB of RAM your machine is likely to be spectacularly slow, I would be tempted to add some more, it's inexpensive and easy to fit.

But using 3rd party software on your iPad won't invalidate the warranty.

Thanks for the reply. On the download site for iTunes it says that minimum OS X requirement is version 10.7.5 (and when I try installing it), but my OS X is 10.5.8.... not sure why it would support it happily? Certainly won't install!

He meant that you could upgrade your mac to 10.7 operating system. I think you find it in the app store now? Not sure.

Anybody know how much it costs for the installation of a new battery in a 2010 MBP 13in?

Just done it. £50. It's easy to do yourself. I found this one company who sell you the battery and the two screwdrivers necessary, makes life a lot easier.

That's a brilliant help thanks, how are you finding the new battery's performance?

I'm not rightly sure. It was for the wife's laptop, and it only went in a week or so ago. It will certainly be better, but I will ask and let you know in a day or so. I thought she'd dropped the machine, as the mousepad was out of kilter, but when I took it to pieces, the battery was swelling badly!

This ifixit article should also help if you're nervous about opening the back up!

Take care to match the 'A' model number before you order.

The swelling battery presumably being the one you replaced rather than the new one? :-)
Any idea how I can find out what A model number my MBP is? I have the serial number.

Edit.

put your serial into here. http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial....

Copy and paste from 'About this mac' | 'more info'.

Yeah you'll need to update OSX to at least 10.7 before installing the current iTunes.

But regardless you'll struggle to install the newer OS with only 1GB of memory.

As mentioned above, my MBPro occasionally does this when you reopen it from sleep mode. You can log in and it's fine.

apparently video is a known problem for 2011 model year and we can expect it to get worse with age.

So, yesterday my brother asked me if I knew of any decent PS2 emulators for a Mac. I didn't but had a looksee and found PS2toMac. After much fannying around to get the software I needed to make it work plus a game to try I ran it where it locked up the machine, not sure what it did but the laptop got hot and the fans were at full speed. I couldn't exit the app so had to hard reboot. When it came back up I found that it had cooked the graphics chip and I now have the same fault as above.

A bunch of arse I thought as a new logic board is £300. I tried various methods to get it back but it's dead.

Anyway, long story short, I called Apple to order a new board, they explained that there is a known issue with the cooling on that board and therefore have extended the warranty to 6 years for that fault, so I just need to bring the laptop in and they'll replace FoC. I'm assuming that means the board not the whole unit but will see. So maybe worth getting that laptop checked.

The warranty is only valid if you bought it new/refurbished from Apple.

Mine has just started to do the same as the picture above and is randomly shutting down and struggling to boot...especially from waking from sleep... I'll go into an Apple store and see what they say...I'll update this thread with my findings. smile

Ok thanks for the help guys. I can't find it anywhere for free (£15 on the apple store) so will probably have to wait until Feb now. Nevermind!
