There is update for iMovie available in the App Store but I can't install it. When I click update, I enter my Apple ID, click OK and then get a message in Apple ID dialogue box, underneath my username, saying plist parsing error. Any suggestions?

See what happens if you log into the apple website with your id.

Looks like a problem at the Apple end, which has been sorted now : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6870136

Can anyone help with this?

My iMac has just developed an odd problem. When I go into Pistonheads and then enter the Forums section and open a topic, the screen automatically refreshes three times and then comes up with a message stating "Safari can't display this webpage".

The cursor then changes from an arrow to a small, hatched square.

I've tried re-booting the computer, but to no avail. I'm actually writing this from a Windows laptop using the same router, without a problem (obviously, or I wouldn't be typing this biggrin)so it seems that the problem is definitely with the iMac.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be ?

Sorry, don't know but it's probably worth repairing disk permissions - it can often remedy these kinds of glitches.

Have you tried the usual trick of clearing history/cache/cookies?

If Safari is only acting up with the one site I'd suspect it'll be one of those.

LordGrover & qube_TA - thanks for the advice. I've done as both of you have suggested and although Safari seems to be running a bit faster, when I get to Pistonheads (and this problem only occurs on PH) it's okay when I enter PH, but once I choose a topic, the page continues to refresh about four time and then just keeps coming up with the "Safari can'tdisplay this webpage" message.

I've also tried goggling for an answer but "the internet" doesn't have one. Bit of a nuisance this. If anyone has any further suggestions I'd appreciate hearing them confused

Have you tried using Google Chrome? Same problem or OK? Do you have any extensions installed (Safari>Preferences>Extensions)? If so try disabling them?

Magic Mouse problem - It scrolls between pages left and right when I want to scroll the page up and down, never used to be like this but is now.
Any clues?

Just bough an Apple iMac "Core i3" 3.06 21.5-Inch (Mid-2010) for a family member. It's currently running OS 10.6.6 though!

I have bought/downloaded all the subsequent OS's through to 10.10.2 & can install them.
Do I have to install the OS's in order, Ie 10.7 then 10.8 etc. I'm guessing there's no way to skip straight to OS 1010.2?!

A worry is, he currently uses iPhoto. Would this disappear with 10.10.2?
I can't find iPhoto on my Macbook Pro, sure it used to be there many moons ago!
It looks like I can download it for free from the App Store, I assume I could put it on the iMac?

Hi All,

I've just bought a second hand iMac with a 1TB fusion drive and have a problem with it automatically restarting after I shut down.

I've tried various things such as making sure there are not startup items, ensuring that "restart after power failure" is unchecked, removed anything in /preferences/LaunchAgents, reset the PRAM and done the SMC reset a couple of times. None of these have sorted it.

So I've booted from a USB stick and decided to do a complete erase of the HDD, before doing a fresh install of Yosemite.

But, I've just discovered that when I go to Terminal and type "diskutil list", it comes up with 18(!?!) disks... see below. I don't feel this is right so want to completely zero this and remove these before I do the clean install. But, I'm struggling to find how? I've tried this:

And they're still there afterwards. Not sure where to go now...

If anyone has any advise it would be greatly appreciated.

TIA.
Not played with a 'fusion drive', however.

Boot machine into recovery mode (hold cmd + r after powering on).

Load up Disk Utility from the menu.

Select your hard drive from the list on the left of the screen and reformat with 1 partition to remove any old partitions and ensure it's scrubbed.

Exit out of that and it'll prompt you to start the install. Do that, it'll download the latest installer from Apple and install the machine all clean n fresh like.

I'm not here for any reason other than to comment about how lovely the new 13" MBPs are biggrin

I'm not sure how I ever lived without the force touch trackpad. It's insane how useful it is.

Can anyone give a personal recommendation for a repairer of the early 2011 MacBookPro GPU failure.
My gorgeous 17" with matt screen has give up the ghost and I am bereft.

So if anyone has had their's fixed successfully - new GPU etc, please let me know.

I have gone through the link but inconclusive outcome.
I will take it in to a Store tomorrow to see what they say. Likely will buy a replacement as well, as can't bear to be without.

When I had my older one checked the service provider simply booted off an external hd with red and green LEDs, it changed colour, they replaced the board.

I'd imagine you you will be ok, but if they say no, question why a £2k laptop is having problems and is being recalled for others with the same problem, when people can get twice that time out of a cheap £300 laptop.

Beware that a new 15" non retina will probably seem a bit low res and a new 15" retina will make the 17" seem a bit low res in the future.

Also get a time machine backup before you go incase you leave it there for the work to be done, you should be able to use that to get your new one to the same state, space permitting.

OK, had couple of chats to Apple Support and can't book a weekend appointment for service for some time. All London stores are flat out.
Have ordered a refurbed top end 15.5 MBP Retina for the short term, while the 17 is being fixed and I may never go back to it.
I was tooing and frowing vs an iMac retina but that was £2,669 and so large. May go back to that at some point.

re backups, I maintain two separate Time Machine stacks so should be OK
