OK, had couple of chats to Apple Support and can't book a weekend appointment for service for some time. All London stores are flat out.
Have ordered a refurbed top end 15.5 MBP Retina for the short term, while the 17 is being fixed and I may never go back to it.
I was tooing and frowing vs an iMac retina but that was £2,669 and so large. May go back to that at some point.
re backups, I maintain two separate Time Machine stacks so should be OK
Are they fixing it FOC? (well the price of a MBP retina, lol).Have ordered a refurbed top end 15.5 MBP Retina for the short term, while the 17 is being fixed and I may never go back to it.

Since updating to latest OS X i notice that when i start up Word, Excel and Powerpoint automatically open even though this option is turned off. Any ideas how to stop it?
When you say 'turned off' what do you mean?Check preferences, Users & Groups, select your user, then login items. See if the applications are there to uncheck.

In terminal, type 'launchctl list'. Look for any office stuff. Grep it out if you know the names of the programs.
If you find them, copy the name of the com file and then type 'launchctl unload <comfile>'.
Beyond that, I'm a bit stuck.

Hi,
Hope someone can help me out.
I'm using the new Apple Photos app on my MBP, as well as iPhone 5 and iCloud.
I'm assured that if I wish to delete a photo from ALL devices I simple delete it from one, but this doesn't seem to be the case. For example, if I delete a pic from iCloud I can watch it disappear from my iPhone within seconds but the image remains on my MBP within Photos.
Pulling my hair out a bit because I want to edit my collection and tidy up once and for all but can't start this process until I can be sure images will leave all locations/devices.
Thanks for any help in advance!

It's a nice guide, thanks.
But it doesn't really address my issue, it just reaffirms the fact that pics should be removed from ALL devices.

"That's why Photos for iOS lets you quickly and easily delete pictures and videos to get them off your iPhone or iPad. If you're using iCloud Photo Library, that'll get rid of the content on all your devices and from Apple's servers. "
What am I missing/doing wrong??

Can anyone recommend a battery for a PowerBook G4 12"?
It looks like I'm going to be using this stty thing for a couple of weeks and it has a weird boot problem which I think is to do with the bad battery.
Not a cheap one off ebay. I've tried a couple and they're all pony. Where are you? Might be able to lend you one for troubleshooting purposes. It looks like I'm going to be using this stty thing for a couple of weeks and it has a weird boot problem which I think is to do with the bad battery.
