Thanks for the answers but typically its now working again (so far). Thinking about it I updated my IPhone 5 to IOS 7 last night from the IMac/Itunes. As it started playing up since then i followed one of the last posts in that thread, after I posted this question. linked to which mentioned resetting something to do with the USBs. not sure whether that sorted it or it was a coincidence.

Also I've seen an OSX called Mavericks. As Im on Snow Leopard is it worth changing to?

If you really want to find out, Ars Technica has done a 24 (!) page review of Mavericks. It's a long old haul, but very in-depth.

Mrs Fox has an iPad
There are a lot of pics on it,and it appears that there are two folders? one called Photos, the other Photo Stream. ( there are pics in 'photo stream' that are not in the photos 'folder'
I can transfer the 'photos' to my PC, but cannot see how to get the photo stream ones across to the pc.
Sods Law decrees that the pics of No 1 grandson that are be sent out with the cards this year are in Photo Stream
and i am getting grief as i dont know what to do

So how do i get either the photo stream pics to my PC

or get them into the photos folder and then to the PC

Thanks

iOS7? Press select in top right corner whilst viewing photo stream. Select photos to transfer by pressing them once (tick appears). Press icon in top left corner with arrow pointing up out of box. Choose "Save to Camera Roll". Transfer photos to PC in your usual way.

eeeee gads.....

Old mac, eMac on OSX 10.4, shiny iMac on Maverick (ahhhhh new outer smell). Auto transfer program thingy will not work between a Power PC and Intel Mac, I am trying to get the mail rules file from older to newer. This is driving me batty, anyone done this or is it start again?

Transferred other stuff OK by hard drive backup and data sticks. This one sodding file is a pain. That and hidden files on the newer mac.

DEpends. If you just want to read them, the text editor will work fine; if you want to edit them, I found using a VM with 'proper' word the easiest. Have heard that the version of office for mac will mangle any formatting etc. that you have in excel - not sure about the rest of the suite.

I think apple has pages on iCloud now, if you're online you can just use that I think.

Office for Mac works FINE. I run it at work across a whole network of both macs and pcs. No issues.

I have found that it sometimes has issues with formatting of tables in Word when moving from one platform to the other.

I'm using an old Macbook Power, running Maverick. I also use Office for Mac; however, just as a trial, I downloaded Open Office for Mac, and found it to be excellent - and free. Pages, which doesn't cost a lot, can also read Word files, and Number can use Excel files.

Just upgraded to iOS 7 on my iPhone 5.
It's horrible isn't it?

I felt it made it look like a kids toy. You soon get used to it though

I really like ios7. Had to get used to it a little bit but set it up and have really liked it ever since. Had to get back to ios6 temporarily when I had a small accident with my phone and it really felt like stepping back in time.

Both of these changes,

http://9to5mac.com/2013/09/24/ios-7-how-to-reduce-...

I think, improve the iOS 7 experience. Bold Text just makes everything more readable and attractive, and the crossfades between apps/screens you get when Reduce Motion is turned on are, I think, more pleasant than the zoom animations.

No major issues with Mavericks that I can recall, other than BTMM being a bit quirky (Remote Desktop Update seems to have improved it somewhat), but, now I mostly can't remember what is different from Mt Lion.

Anyone else using an Icybox enclosure with Mavericks? The Seagate inside will not have it but works on another adapter. The worker is Firewire to Thunderbolt and the non worker is USB3.

OK, Icybox gone back to manufacturer. OSX 10.9.1 came out last night and my remaining external hard drives are now sleeping when they should.

Next problem, anyone using Spideroak on 10.9.1? Mine refuses to work now.

I thought windows 8.1 was giving me grief wink
