Tonsko - Yes I can find it but no, it doesn't work.

LG - Yep, all accounts are present and correct so it hasn't forgotten anything.

Just seems not to want to give me my mail hehe

You could try repairing the disk permissions. That can often fix little bugs like this.

Disk utility, highlight drive, verify/repair permissions.

^ Best bet. yes

Otherwise, the technical term is 'borked'. We'll have to wait for someone with more experience/knowledge.

I have this problem on my new iMac, it only appeared after installing Mavericks. I did a lot of research and it appears that there is a fundamental problem with Mail under Mavericks that is being experienced by some users. My Macbook Pro under Mavericks is also experiencing problems getting mail from Gmail (new mail count is never correct and mail reception is at best intermittent) but not to the same extent as the iMac. To get the mail on the iMac I have to open the little gear wheel at the bottom left of the mail screen and press "Get Account Info" and this seems to re-synch the mail but I have to do this every time I want to receive mail!!

If you do a search you will find an awful lot of upset mail users out there and Apple seem to be pretty silent about the problems.

Disk permissions checked and the problem is still the same, although my screen brightness did go mad for a moment hehe

After a brief google it does seem that I am not alone with this problem. Thankfully it is largely irrelevant apart from being a minor irritation but it would be nice if it worked.

Cheers anyway though, Chaps. Much appreciated smile

Just purchased an iPad Air, I am unable to open any YouTube links when using Safari which has left me stumped as my old iPad did, is there a setting that I need to switch on/off? It is also not letting me download the YouTube App.

The only thing that comes to mind is to try visiting this page:

http://www.youtube.com/html5

and tick the box that says 'use HTML5 where possible'.

I have no idea whether this will work, other than ios doesn't like flash, and doesn't mind html5. If it's already set to html5, I don't know what to suggest.

Well there's your issue. You need the YouTube app.

All sorted now, for some unknown reason when loading my profile from the Cloud it did not load YouTube, wiped the iPad and tried for the 2nd time and it loaded it. No idea why the first time though.

Bloody technology

Mavericks MacBook Pro 17
High (80%) CPU used by kernel - makes the system unusable
Highish temp caused by external display - not that high at 70C but enough to trip the new loop function to attempt to cool down.

disconnecting the external display drops the temp and the CPU utilisation returns to normal

I have seen a net article to disable the new profile by removing the kext but this is too technical for me.

Any options that let me use the second display?

Little question, I have an Airport Express for wireless audio, it's one of the old models:

It works fine however it does have epic audio latency, about a second or two so useless for anything where latency would be a problem, i.e video.

Has anyone here got one of the current models and if so what's the latency like?

Thanks in advance.

Im after a basic free image editing program. One tenth of the power of 'photoshop elements on the PC' - perhaps the PC equivalent of IRFAN view. I have nothing specific in mind, its only occasionally I want to crop or resize images, but the standard 'program' (whatever it is) that opens .jpg images or screenshots is a tad feeble. Any suggestions chaps? Thanks! smile

I think there's one called Acorn. However 'preview' (the standard mac photo app) does theses things easily.

Pages layout help...

Hi - I'm new to Macs, so go easy. smile

I'm trying to edit a word document that's been emailed to me. It has a faint blue line under the title of the page which I'd like to remove - I don't know if this is in 'layout' or some other layer of the program. I can't seem to highlight it or select it.

Clues welcome.

Thanks

MacBook Pro cooling - early 2011 17. I am getting sick of the fans running full speed, seems worse after 10.9. and of course now, when it gets hot the CPU diverts cycle away
I use a 2 fan Targus cooler pad which i just cleaned, but this hardly helps.

I resort to putting a freezer pad under the case and this works a treat but is pretty much Fred Flintstone

Any recommendations?

Install LibreOffice (free) and use that instead of Pages.

No idea with mac books but my imac fans were OTT just after I got it so used activity monitor to see what was hogging the cpu's. Turned out to be a screen saver.

Just bought a Zalman ZM-NC3500 cooler pad with a single huge but quiet fan.

Fabulous, looks good, can't hear it and cools very well.
