You don't need to ever turn it off, just close the lid - so you can get round it that way. I you're really bothered, there are 3rd party apps that will do it.
Two fingers on the pad, click brings up the context menu. Then select 'save image as...'. ( Apologies if this doesn't work on Mavericks, I'm assuming it will).
Thanks. Does anyone have any good links to websites or youtube videos for macbook virgins. I'm sure there is far more that this is capable of I just have no idea how to use it.

Also, do you always have to press the "down" arrow when scrolling on a sit to be able to bring the page control bat on the right hand side up. Its making one handed use of the laptop very difficult

scrap that last one, I've just found the shortcuts details them.

It's like learning how to re-use a computer all over again!!! if only I could figure out how to make all the text larger when using sites. I swear the words never used to be so small!!

Watch some videos on the touch pad. It really is great. To make text bigger, do a pinch zoom on the pad like you would on an iPhone. Also check out 2, 3 and 4 finger swipes: up, down, left and right.

Explore the settings for your touch pad - you can set it make a 'click' a light tap, rather than pressing down to actually make it click.

Also, the file system is very different. You don't install as such, rather copy to various directories, so there's no registry to worry about.

It may also confuse you as to where things go. I have a little script that I can give you to run which will tell you you absolute path in the title bar of finder:it helped me no end to work out where things lived and to not get lost when I got my first Mac.

Thanks all for the replies, I've been on to youtube and watched a few videos and now realise just how simple some of the features are to use!

I'l continue no doubt to have questions in the future but for now many thanks all

I found screen casts online very helpful when I switched: click. He's a bit Northern but subtitles hardly required. wink

Is there and excel app that can be downloaded onto this or a "cloud" service that lets you use excel? I used to use on my iPad "cloud on" but can't find a download to be able to do that on here :/

Does anybody have experience of running Boot Camp on the latest top end Mac Book Pro? I'd like to know if it uses the normal Windows drivers or special Boot Camp ones?

Are there any known issues / restrictions with Boot Camp?

From what I remember, you just download something from apple and it just sorts itself out.

Is there anyway of increasing the cooling on a Mac mini? Thinking of upgrading my current 2008 model used for xbmc! But it's kept near a wood burning stove so heating is already an issue!

I removed the case on one of ours. Not so aesthetic, but in our case it's hidden away anyway.

Quick Q, chaps. My Macbook seems to have forgotten where it's mail client is? The icon is still in the bar thing at the bottom of the screen but wicking on it doesn't appear to do anything.

Any thoughts?

Try spotlight. Cmd+space and type mail.
If that works, delete the icon from the dock and add it again.

Cheers for the mega fast response thumbup

Didn't work though frown

It doesn't really matter, I prefer to use gmail in a browser anyway but it is the only thing wrong with the machine so I would like it to work smile

Can you find it using finder/in the applications folder. Does it work there? If it does, try dragging the icon from there to the dock.

[No idea why spotlight didn't work, as this is kind of the same]
