Doing a screen grab (CMD-Shift-F4) or similar is only every going to grab what you can see.
So if you have a high quality video playing in a small window, pause it and grab what you can see on the screen, it will only grab it at the resolution and size the screen is displaying it at.
You need something to grab the frame at the resolution the original footage actually is.
It's been a while since I used the Gopro software, but I seem to remember you can pause it and choose to export the still, and then choose its resolution.
Pick the size you want, or native to use the original footage size

Quick simple one please....
I am looking to capitalise on the PhotoBox flash sale on, and want to take some stills from some MP4's I have taken with a GoPro.
I am sure I have done it before and retained the quality - and have a MBA with Quicktime (free) or iMovie, or a PC with QT, and alike.
Whats the best way to take a 'slice' and keep the quality high so I can blow up to 1m by 1m type size ?
I am sure before when I did it, a simple 'Copy' in tQuicktime was all I did ?
(the Print screen / CMD,Shift +4 way seems to not save to a decent resolution)
you can import into imovie; then in imovie, move in the project until you see the frame that you want. Right-click and add freeze frame. Once it's made it, right click on the freeze frame and reveal in finder. That takes you to the image you just made.I am looking to capitalise on the PhotoBox flash sale on, and want to take some stills from some MP4's I have taken with a GoPro.

Seems that Studio has been retired now.
I did find this which looks to of replaced it:

If you have the original footage on your mac that is no different to having it on the camera
It will still be the same original resolution unless you've processed it with something, which it sounds like you haven't.

But the new software comes with GoPro studio bundled. I did find this which looks to of replaced it:

What resolution was the original footage?
At that resolution if you play it full screen it will be close enough to its maximum anyway, so maybe best to just do the simple Cmd-Shift-F4 and grab what you can. It can be cleaned up to some degree in photoshop etc if needed.
It will be worth looking into a higher resolution for future recordings though. Set it as high as you can really, and get a bigger memory card to cater for it.
You can always downscale the footage later if needed due to storage size

Go to Applications - Utilities and click on Activity Monitor and take a look and see if something is hogging all the resources.
Might just be a program that hasn't got on well with the update.
Thanks. Had a look and there's nothing obviously loading the cpu or memory :SMight just be a program that hasn't got on well with the update.
Think I may have found the problem, a memory stick is slowing it down but I don't know why. It's slow to unlock with the stick plugged in but OK when it isn't.
Could it be something to do with file indexing? The memory stick has some ISO and MDX images for car diagnostic software that I use in Bootcamp and some general word files / some pics - 5,100 raw image files.
It may also be related to Bootcamp - I've installed a parts catalogue for the Fiat group which has literally millions of small files - pics of individual car parts. Again, could this impact on performance / battery runtime?

Could do if it is indexing. Does macOS still show a dog in the spotlight magnifying glass when it is indexing?
Mine doesn't...BoRED S2upid said:

Have you upgraded to iOS10? Which iPhone do you have? And have you got a passcode/touchID set up?
Yes. iPhone SE, Touch ID and passcode but can activate voice control without either so something is wrong. Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
