I'm not sure if this thread is being used or not, but anyway. I have the following error when trying to delete some files:

Any thoughts as to why I can't delete it?
Open an administrative command prompt and do "chkdsk C: /v /f"

It'll blather about not being able to lock the disk. No problem, restart your computer and let it do its thing.

If you're interested, the results of the disk check will be buried in the event viewer somewhere. If you've got PowerShell installed, you can use this to get at them and put them in a text file on your desktop:

[snip]
get-winevent -FilterHashTable @{logname="Application"; id="1001"}| ?{$_.providername –match "wininit"} | fl timecreated, message | out-file Desktop\CHKDSKResults.txt
[/snip]

Dear PH devs, your "code" tags are still arse.

Avoid anything with the words "registry cleaner" in it.

No, seriously. Run - don't walk - away from these things.

They will probably do more harm than good.

I am not a fan of these "PC cleaner" type products, instead preferring to identify and solve specific problems. In my experience these products cause more problems than they fix.

Of course there are times when Windows just needs a good nuking (vastly reduced since the introduction of Vista/7, but it still happens).

I see our chap has deleted his comment.

It did seem a bit spamular.

I've never had a problem with the registry cleaner part of cCleaner - tends to only delete reg entries of uninstalled programs (and old MS updates) and the odd file extension from temporary files.

Yeah, PiriForm CCleaner is fine IME. I wouldn't randomly download any others.

Yup - crapcleaner is one of the more trustworthy. For our inexperienced users however CJs advice is sound! Many so-called cleaners are malware in disguise, the bds!

So, I finally restarted and ran this test. Still no luck in getting any closer to the issues, it's still saying that I can't delete and there are no errors in the chkdsk log

If you crack open a command prompt, CD to the desktop folder and do a DIR, what do you get?

It's there.
Paste the output of "DIR /R", if you'd be so kind.

Hi guys, i'm struggling with hyperlinks and hopefully one of you guys can help.

I have an excel worksheet and i'm trying to hyperlink to a particular page in adobe. I have only got adobe reader is it possible? as at the moment i can only hyperlink to the full document and not a particular page. I believe i can do it by using the bookmarking feature but as i only have adobe reader and not the full version of adobe i've been told it isn't possible, i'm just hoping there is another way.

Many thanks in advance!
Hi 3kgt.. I know time has passed.. no doubt fixed problem else given up! Assuming not fixed, Adobe what? A PDF file?

Edit: ok, PDF file.. reread, sorry. Like so: http://www.mysite.co.uk/myfile.pdf#page=2". Simples!;)

Heh, sorry. Can you go up a level and do it again? Can you rename it? Can you delete the contents? Are you sick of the endless questions yet?

Yes I can move it and yes I can rename it.

What are you looking for in the Dir /r paste? I have all sorts of 'stuff' on my desktop and it'll be a massive list of stuff!

Looking for iffy-looking alternate data streams.

My thinking is that there might be one and you might not have rights on it and it's causing aggro.

They look like this:

13/08/2013 09:34 4,732,465 2900-MgmtCfg-Jan2008-59916196.pdf
26 2900-MgmtCfg-Jan2008-59916196.pdf:Zone.Identifier:$DATA

(The file is the management guide for an HP 2900-48G switch)

I did have. I deleted them, which may or may not have been the right thing to do. Still doesn't delete though.
