Hi guys, i'm struggling with hyperlinks and hopefully one of you guys can help.

I have an excel worksheet and i'm trying to hyperlink to a particular page in adobe. I have only got adobe reader is it possible? as at the moment i can only hyperlink to the full document and not a particular page. I believe i can do it by using the bookmarking feature but as i only have adobe reader and not the full version of adobe i've been told it isn't possible, i'm just hoping there is another way.

Many thanks in advance!
Hi 3kgt.. I know time has passed.. no doubt fixed problem else given up! Assuming not fixed, Adobe what? A PDF file?

Edit: ok, PDF file.. reread, sorry. Like so: "http://www.mysite.co.uk/myfile.pdf#page=2". Simples!;)

Hi Kimz,

sorry just remembered this and noticed you have answered but due to my slow response the link you have provided doesnt work. Any chance you could redo?

many thanks
Ant
Hi Ant!

Ok, the link isn't a link to anything, rather an example to explain the how! Simply replace the "http://www.mysite.co.uk/myfile.pdf" bit with the PDF file name & location you want to link to and append "#page=x" where 'x' is the specific page you wish to link to within that PDF file!

(Hope that makes sense)

Let me know how it shakes out for you.

Utterly bizarre. I can only suggest that you format your hard disk, before removing it from the computer, smashing it with a hammer and burning it. Bury what's left in a deep, deep hole.

This should get rid of that file.

Any thoughts as to why I can't delete it?
Have you tried rebooting in Safe Mode and deleting it?

No need to go so far.

Little bit overkill.....
Use a linux boot disk. Mount the drive and delete offending directory.

I was going to, but on the Commanders suggestion, I have buried it outside...

Old XP laptop wont keep time.

Tried setting it to look for 'internet time', but neither of the servers (windows/microsoft one, or nitst.gov.US or whaterver it is) will work, says theres an error connecting.

The time being wrong is causing all sorts of hassle with internet acess as security certificates get their dates messed up.

Any ideas?

Is the Windows Time service (a) started (b) set to start automatically?

CMOS battey being one onboard the laptop (motherboard?) I did wonder, I presume its easy enough to change.

I bet its 10+ years old so I suppose it makes sense.

However I had hoped that at least if the computer was set to update from a server, it would only be wrong when I booted up and would quickly correct.

I need some advice.

My desktop has been sluggish lately and I can't figure out why. I am constantly using between 50% (when idle with nothing open) and 70%+ physical memory useage with juicy programs up. This is unusually high but I can't find the cause.

I have:

  • Defragged once per week.
  • Disk Clean Up
  • Spyware scans
  • Virus scans
  • Removed everything from startup
  • Checked processes and have nothing but the bare bones.
Any suggestions?

I'm late to the party, but have you tried taking ownership of the folder?

Very late to the party, hopefully long since fixed, but, for closure, syncing to internet time will only correct small time-errors. IIRC your PC clock needs to be within 15 hours of the correct time.

So, this weekend whilst working on venue my laptop said that it has an issue with the hard drive, rebooted and went in to diskcheck. Spent 3 hours changing the security policy on 70000 files and now won't boot.

It get passed the 'Windows is Starting' screen and then I have a black screen with just a mouse pointer. Startup repair does nothing and I can't upgrade from a CD at the moment as I have to boot into Windows and then reboot, which I can't do.

Safe mode? Tried that. Same effect.

Thoughts?

Sounds very much like the disk is bollucksed.

CHKDSK from the recovery console should confirm/deny.

But before that, retrieve anything you care about. (disk out and into a caddy, do it on another machine)

My daughters laptop keeps displaying a white desktop background with a message saying the active desktop has crashed.
Samsung,Windows XP home, all updates/service packs etc.,using Google chrome for internet explorer.
I have unchecked the websites in the desktop properties box as instructed(web home page only)and this resolved it but it came back.
The webpage is still un-ticked as I set it in the properties box and it will not allow me to delete this webpage either.
The apply tab is highlighted as though you have altered something and if you click it and click ok it returns to the normal desktop until reboot or after sleep/hibernate.
That`s as far as it goes for mebiggrin any ideas chaps?

I haven't seen an active desktop crash since Win98 so had to do a quick lookup to find the solution:
From Answers.microsoft.com

1.Go to Run, type regedit and hit enter

2.Go here HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\SafeMode\Components

3.Select the value DeskHtmlVersion

4.Select the Decimal radial button

5.Change the value of 272 to 0

6.Most of the time it might take a few seconds for your background to appear and other times…you might need to restart your computer.

Incidentally, how does it get an active desktop in the first place?
I suspect ignorance.
