Well, I use air video to control handbrake, and have no issues with getting subtitles on my videos.

The preview only gives me the 1st 10 seconds so there's no subs but when it's 1st played it's says the title of the subs file. I've changed any options other than the obvious one's you can see on the image.
During the setup here.

click remove , then select the titles again, with burned in ticked - this should then add your required titles with burned in enabled.

I had a few problems with this when I first started converting all my dvd to mkv.

One particular film, Taxi, was playing up. And I had to encode it again with burned in titles on mp4.

For me, I use this http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/

Something that allowed me to hardcode subtitles into video's for the Xbox, whereas before I was using GotSent which wouldn't do it.

@Melvin Udall LOL I've not got a clue what Air Brake is either. Thanks anyway though smile

@dtmpower You was right about the options, tried it with the .mp4 but still no subtitles. It could be similar case to your Taxi & be fine on the next one I use but for now I ended up using the mkv2vob software then transferring it over to the PS3, only for the PS3 not to play the video files properly. The Audio sounded fine but the picture stayed on the first frame (grrrr).

@Bollah What a hero. Worked 1st time with no problems (although not tested on the PS3 yet). Converted it to .avi (keeping it the same format) which added a couple of hundred MB & it took a while longer than Handbrake but that's no problem at all. I even downloaded the Audio software along with the Video grabbing software. Thanks.
