OK - challenge to the torchers.....

You've got Amazon and a tenner, you have standard, off the shelf AA & AAA batteries - what would you buy?

Are these real torches or are they like the teaspoons in the teaspoon thread?

A right, then later I shall post some photos of my Klynax 4400 EZ-1d (2014 model of course, the inferior 2015 model has no place in a man's arsenal).

It replaced a very serviceable Dessier PPD8 which served me well for 30 years, but ultimately fell foul of every torch owner's nightmare, beam trundle.

I don't have the knowledge that others on the thread have, but I'll give it a go.

I have a couple of really generic torches, both zoom-able and with a clicky switch in the end. They are okay quality considering they're crazy cheap although you'd probably get something a little better from banggood or gearbest.

Here's the single AA one I keep in the car in case of breakdowns or whatever:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sidiou-Group-Flashlight-Ad...

And here's the multi AAA (or single 18650) one I keep in the flat:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/CrazyFire%C2%AE-Searchligh...

I'm sure one of the guys will be along in a bit with a suggestion for a better quality torch, but those are doing me just fine.

That's a Sipik SK68, and it can be had for £1.50 fairly often on GearBest sales. And it's good value at that money. I wouldn't pay 5 times that for it though.

I'm not an avid reader of this topic but have ended up with a lenser p7 as a result of a previous browse! Well, I did until some thieving hits broke into the house and took my car, which had said torch in the glove box.

Before I go and get another, is it still the item of choice in the sub £30 region? It's used when camping primarily, but also use it when we do our school pa fireworks display for checking the site so range is reasonably important.

Any help appreciated!!

Would anyone be interested in my Fenix TK51?

I've literally used it once in the garden and it went back in the box! Good light, but not needed with my tk71 and others! It's about 2-3 months old and unmarked. Call it £100 posted?

"Coast Polysteel 600 LED Torch"
Price: £34.95

Great quality and plenty of power. I'll say again, really impressed with build quality. Also purchased a Coast camping lantern which is a good quality but the output is not what i expected.

Am considering a torch in future which could be useful in self defence situations (because, why not, new toys etc smile). This is the one that came up as a good suggestion.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Klarus-XT11-Tactical-Torch...

It's supposedly staggeringly bright, has a strobe, and a glass breaker which is handy for striking a would be attacker.

Anything else available for less cash?

PS. I'm not actually expecting to be attacked, but it's nice to know you can have a self defence weapon that won't attract attention from BiB. Would be very handy for other things too but if I'm spending a few quid why not have the full package.

Low-tech compared to most, but terrific at what it does - my Bardic lamp:

Needs a bit of restoration and an LED conversion. I've already fitted a battery conversion pack to replace the expensive and hard to find AD28 originally fitted.

Defensive use - if you get gubbed over the head with a Bardic you'll know all about it! headache

My dad has one of those laying about somewhere, yellow I think. Takes a massive battery!
It'd be interesting to compare its performance to my lenser/fenix torches...

Forgive my ignorance but is that one of the lights that goes on the back of a train?
